Fair enough yeah, although I like Briggs more than most, this is an easy story to screw up. I'm sure Hurt's performance will be rock solid to great though.
I think they're playing it a tad safe with doing a story so close to the 50th - the real potential with Hurt/War Doctor is to mine the whole of the Time War, do all the crazy Rusty things (Neverwhen, Nightmare Child, Could have been King, etc) since audios allow for more surreal and crazy events since there's no VFX budget.
I wouldn't care if Hurt portrays a War Doctor that looks like 30ish years old either to properly portray the time the War Doctor was a crazy total un-Doctorish warrior - sure the voice will be too gravelly for someone that young, but it's worth it for Hurt, and they can always handwave it with a bit of sci-fi.

Guys, I've just had a dream about Hell Bent. Think of it as a preview clip. I saw Rassilon (Timothy Dalton) going to meet the Doctor outside the city. For some reason he had a half-Cyberman body. He then sustains a minor injury, I don't remember what exactly, but he regenerates into Donald Sumpter. He doesn't look like how he is in the promo pics, his head has several dark veins across it and shit kinda like that Quantum Shade.

Prediction for Hell Bent:
Fade from black to white. Nothing is visible. Is the episode frozen? Should i turn off the telly? But, wait, there is something. Something is moving towards the screen from the deep white plane. It's moving carefully. Methodically. It is practiced and refined.
As the figure comes closer, it also becomes familiar. It is the ghost of Peter Capaldi, bitter with age even in the afterlife.
"My child, you have forgotten your purpose. You are far from the path of your destiny."
"No Peter," I say, "I will not become what you want me to be. I am free from the chains of your old tradition."
"You cannot escape it," he says, as his old face grows hard and cold. His skin tightens, his teeth extend, and his eyes become black holes that whistle when the wind blows through. His twisted skeleton reaches a hand through the screen and grabs me. He crawls through the television, slinking and crunching his monstrous form into the physical world. But I am stronger than him. His bones become dust and are swept away, out of sight, as if they were never there. He is gone again, for now.
Then it ends with Clara being alive and the Doctor now played by Matt Smith, leaving.
So, basically, the same as always plus a couple of surprises. Not expecting much more than that.

Has anyone caught up with the most recent Titan comics?
I liked the conclusion to the Ninth Doctor miniseries, both in terms of writing and in terms of art. It was a really good series, and I'm glad the same writer is doing the monthly series starting in April.
The Doctor-less issue of the Tenth Doctor was very interesting build-up for stuff we're probably not going to see until a few months from now. It looks like Ten is going to be up againsta bunch of Gods, not unlike Seven in the White TARDIS/Black TARDIS arc. Also, nice surpriseCaptain Jack! I wonder if this is between Children of Earth and End of Time for him, or if he's going to be revealed to have come from the future of something?
Finally, the Twelfth Doctor issue. An alright action story, but no more than that, and the art was well below average. Several panels looked half-finished. On the whole, disappointing.

I have to agree with you on this one, actually. A few of the reviews have stated that Hell Bent falls short of Heaven Sent. If anything too dramatic happened involving Clara, I'm sure we'd be seeing Face the Raven levels of praise, instead of so much focus on this mysterious divisive aspect (which I suspect will be a confirmation that Time Lords can choose what gender they want to regenerate into).
