Sadly he's a Valeyard-level continuity minefield, think the version from Bernice Summerfield is an alternate timeline to the one from Gallifrey audios, and the two are warring with each other across Time or something

for lucie yes, and the doctor doesnt care about rules most of the time, he just needs a push. Timelords coming back would be a good one

Moffat does care about Big Finish as he purposefully left gaps in Eleven's timeline that Big Finish could fill.

Not to mention he meets with Briggs every few months to discuss stories to ensure that they don't step on each other's toes.

They're not that different. Chris left Doctor Who because he didn't like how he'd been treated by some of the higher-ups. Colin refused to come back to do the regeneration scene for the same reason.
Since Big Finish are conpletely different people from the ones who made the show, we can only hope that he'll come back for them, but I'm not holding my breath.
I figure there's only one way Eccleston can be convinced to do audios: BF works with lots of different actors, and nearly all of them are always saying in the extras how nice people there are and what a pleasant experience it's been (also, the lunches are apparently great). I hope Eccleston meets enough of these actors to convince him that working for BF is not just a Doctor Who thing, but all-round good work for an actor.
>>
>>63244791
>Since Big Finish are completely different people from the ones who made the show, we can only hope that he'll come back for them, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not sure, eccles has a fit even if an interviewer mentions the fact he once did doctor who
his dislike for the show (or at least his desire to disassociate from it) goes deeper than a bad experience with a couple directors

Even from interviews in 2005 it's clear it's just another job to him, and not something he has any personal interest or investment. Polar opposite to capaldi, who runs around the doctor who museum pretending to be doctor who for the kids

It's such a pity, because pretty much every other time that an acror who wasn't already a fan like Capaldi or Tennant were was cast they ended up loving the show, starting from Hartnell and up to Smith.
And yet, one of my favorite Doctors ends up being the only one who had a negative experience and wants no part in it anymore. Fuck.

Fair, though if you read the rest of the interview it's clear he was in a shitty mood. Not the interviewer's fault, but there's that bit where he mentions the rumour that he'd died and Eck kind of loses his shit a little bit over it. I reckon he just has mood swings, because there's other times where he's like this about the show:

I think watching episodes only once is a bit too much. In my experience, an episode can be improved simply by watching it in different conditions or with a better mindset than you did the first time.
If you end up hating every minute of it two times out of two it's fine to skip it, though.

>Hell Bent, then, rounds off Doctor Who series 9 - well, at least until Christmas - with a coherent, nerdy, often brilliant, sometimes a little frustrating, but always watchable piece of television. This series, more than any other in his tenure for me, Steven Moffat has really clicked everything into place. Hell Bent suggests he's got many more interesting Doctor Who stories to tell, and hopefully, Peter Capaldi will be there every step of the way to help tell them.

>>
>>63245839

moffat doesn't make the minor character casting calls, especially not for relationships that happened under RTD. Moffat has depicted 3 main relationships in his tenure (ie ones where he'd have a hand in casting)

AmyxRory - monoracial
ElevenxRiver - monoracial
ClaraxDanny - interracial

And the Russ Tea Davies ones are all split second background relationships except for RosexMickey, which is undermined by the fact she keks him with the Doctor and Handy Doctor. Martha and Mickey is not kekking (they're both black wtf? if you disagreed with racemixing surely you'd believe you're not just entitled to the women of other races lol), and Donna has a thing for dark meat.
>>
>>63246150

literally who cares. the entirely of doctor who's 52 year run has been raping the lore. we knew pretty much nothing about the doctor after the first story except that he was an 'exile' 'from another time'. You didn't get the concept of Time Lords until the end of the sixties, you didn't get the word 'Gallifrey' until The Time Warrior, you didn't get any of the specific Gallifrey lore until The Deadly Assassin, and since then each contributor has made up some more stuff about the wider history and universe of the show whenever it suits the story. The opportunity for creation of lore or addition to it didn't just end in 1989, that'd be retarded. I'm happy that, even after all this time, we're still learning only tiny bits about the main character of this show that's one of the most popular in the world and has lasted for half a century. Moffat knows not to give away too much (for example when he didn't actually reveal the Doctor's name and used it as a bait and switch, one of the best decisions he's ever made). Doctor Who's continuity is completely fucked (just try and piece together a coherent history of the Daleks, even without the change in background story between The Daleks and Genesis of the Daleks, which were written by THE SAME FUCKING PERSON). The Cybermen are from Mondas, no they're from Telos, no they're from a parallel Earth, no they're from Mondas again. Skaro's been destroyed, no it hasn't because it was in the Time War, yes it has because Dalek Sec said so, no it hasn't because the Doctor's there in Asylum of the Daleks, wait yes it was destroyed but the Daleks rebuilt it piece by piece, hang on a minute wasn't the 'final end' of the Daleks way back in The Evil of the Daleks? Half the fun of being interested in the show is trying to fill in the gaps using your imagination (some fans even take this to new levels of autism, see: Lance Parkin).

>“Losing Clara is a very significant thing for him,” Capaldi said. “This season has been very strong and one of the great things about it is that the Doctor has committed to having a great time with Clara and he has realised that being able to roam around through time and space with a buddy is enormous fun. He has always suspected that something bad is going to happen and indeed it does. It is going to push him to a new place for next year.”

>The Christmas special, The Husbands of River Song, welcomes back time-traveller River Song, played by Alex Kingston, as she meets Capaldi’s Doctor for the first time. “She has difficulty in believing that this grey-haired stick insect used to be Matt Smith, or David Tennant, and that causes some problems because she doesn’t really buy it, or buy him,” Capaldi said. "It frustrates him terribly because he sees her flirting and being very voluptuous and zestful with other people but not with him. It is very much a comic, festive episode.”
>It is a cheeky nod to the reaction the Scottish actor received from fans when in 2013 he became one of the oldest actors since William Hartnell’s original Doctor to be cast in the role, inheriting it from the youngest Doctor, Matt Smith. All of a sudden, the Doctor had changed from a character that young fans could swoon over to an older, fiercer Doctor, albeit one who tooled around on his electric guitar and wore a snappy pair of sunglasses.

>Capaldi, who was in Sydney recently for the Doctor Who Festival, said he had noticed a “marked difference” in the fans’ reaction to him after two seasons of playing the Doctor. “I think this year they bought me as the Doctor, their affection for the Doctor was much more acutely focused on me and they believed I was the Doctor much more than they had the last year,” Capaldi said. “I have always loved the idea of a more spiky and distant Doctor but that does not mean he is not also having a great time.”

They had fun only oncethis series. At the start of Face the Raven. It lasted 30 seconds.
>>
>>63247002
Why would that make you more optimistic? It sounds like the same sort of meta crap they pulled in Deep Breath, as if him looking older needed to be explained. Talking down to the entire audience for the sake of some shallow fans.

Why would River not believe he was the Doctor because he looks older? That's fucking retarded. The bitch has regenerated her own damn self. What a cunt.
>>
>>63247008
I remember them having fun in Under the Lake, TGWD and Sleep No More. Basically they had fun whenever they weren't in danger, which is standard for this show. 12 being more laidback and nice this year is also an example of what Capaldi is talking about there.
>>
>>63247143

Because they're giving river a different dynamic instead of having her act with 12 the exact same way she did with 11

I think it's slightly contrived that 12 would be jealous of river moving on though
>>
>>63246757
>Weren't the looms just something in place of their natural reproduction which was removed in some curse?
Time Lords had normal sex in pre-Rassilon era but then were cursed by Karn witches. The curse is lifted by the end of the book too.
>>
>>63247221
Nah, you could give them a different dynamic to what she was like with 11 without making it completely nonsensical from a character perspective. River shouldn't be confused by him looking older or different. She's fucking regenerated before a few times, it's not a foreign concept to her.

If you wanted to give them a new dynamic make it so that now that 12 is much older than 11 he knows more than she does, rather than the way she used to spout her spoilers shit at 11 constantly. It's that simple.

It's more than slightly contrived that 12 would be jealous. It's completely out of character for this Doctor. 12 isn't sexual or big into flirting. Capaldi said that's not what his Doctor is about.

He was basically saying, “I want to be more playful, I don’t just want to be the 12th Doctor, I want to be all the Doctors. Every Doctor coming in a mix.” And he thought maybe in his lonely moments in the TARDIS he could play the guitar. Which clicked into what I was thinking, watching Peter on the [2014] World Tour with his shades on, waving to the crowds and being such a rocker. That’s what he once was, rocking round Glasgow in his younger days when the whole world wanted him. I wanted to see that in his Doctor. It’s also the last thing you’d think his Doctor would do after last season, pick up a guitar and think, ‘Do you know what, I’m a bit of a rocker.’ The last thing you think he’d do is just what he should do.

Remember the furore last year over the appearance of the Cyber-Brigadier? That split Who fandom down the middle. This one is potentially even more divisive. You have been warned.
>8. Remember when Missy told Clara that she had cared about the Doctor, ‘Since always. Since the Cloister Wars. Since the night he stole the moon and the President’s wife. Since he was a little girl. One of those was a lie’? The Doctor provides a little clarification about part of this.

Oh boy.

No way senpai. We know how many incarnations that Doctor has had and we've seen all of them. There's no way he could have ever been a little girl.
>>
>>63248359

If we're lucky it's just a reference to the cloister wars
>>
>>63248447
You don't need to regenerate to have a sex change.
>>
>>63248534

It'd be legitimately offensive if they say that the doctor's first incarnation was a transgender
We already saw him as a little boy in Listen anyway, there's no way moff would pull that stunt

s-surely not

I like to think all those 3 things she listed are just childhood games the Doctor and the Master used to play. The Cloister Wars was some kind of board game they came up with together, the stealing the moon and the President's wife was just a fantasy/storytelling games, and the little girl thing was a roleplaying game where the Doctor used a Gallifreyan mophead as a wig.

Moff does say he's scared about how people will react to something in the finale

h-he wouldn't though... would he?
>>
>>63248359
>people genuinely believe that ''the doctor was a little girl'' is happening
You do remember that Listen was like, a year ago, right?
>>
>>63248654

Moff certainly forgot when he killed danny pink off
>>
Moff isn't going to actually follow through with the half human thing is he?

Didn't the Doctor's mother appear in End of Time as part of the time lord council? It's not explicitly stated but it's heavily implied and doesn't the script call her that?

In order to improve his chances of geting accepted to the Time Lord Academy, the Doctor pretended to be a cute girl to flirt with the admissions panel, which was comprised entirely of dirty old men. The crossdressing Doctor captured the hearts of many students, including the Master who was his first boyfriend. Eventually his true gender was revealed and the Master felt so betrayed he turned evil.

Maybe the "hybrid" line was to be intended metaphorically? As in "half Time Lord culture, half Earthling culture", or some other shenanigan?

Or a bootstrap paradox, where Ashildr is his mother? He made her immortal, and.. Sorta of..

Jesus fucking Christ, can't handle this shit anymore. Can't wait for Saturday

Moffat didn't forget that at all. I suspect it was his plan from the start to kill of Danny Pink. Which might explain why he was so bland. A walking plot device. Orson Pink was just a red herring so viewers would assume that Danny & Clara had a happy ending.

But there's an interview with Jenna Coleman here
http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/doctor-who/interviews/a611420/jenna-coleman-talks-doctor-who-clara-cant-go-back-to-a-normal-life/#ixzz3U1WMU18G

She says she found out from Moffat in March of 2014 that Danny was gonna be killed off, which is just around the same time they were filming Listen (late February to early March 2014 for that episode).

>Peter talking about Susan

Man, Moffat missed a huge opportuninty in the 50th by not making Susan be the voice of reason that changes the Doctor's mind. Instead we got Clara giving some speech about ''never cruel or cowardly'', pfffft
>>
>>63248803

>the doctor's childhood and academy days follow a plot that sounds like it's lifted straight from an anime

I'D WATCH IT
>>
>>63248867
The only way it could have worked is that Susan could have been the Moment instead of Rose, but I'm not bothered either way. Carole Ann Ford is a terrible actress.
>>
>>63248674

I think that Orson Pink was pretty much erased from history and Danny only died because Missy tried to keep the Doctor and Clara together. Had Clara stopped traveling with the Doctor like she intended, she would have never has the conversation with Danny that resulted in his death.
