They're not that different. Chris left Doctor Who because he didn't like how he'd been treated by some of the higher-ups. Colin refused to come back to do the regeneration scene for the same reason.
Since Big Finish are conpletely different people from the ones who made the show, we can only hope that he'll come back for them, but I'm not holding my breath.
I figure there's only one way Eccleston can be convinced to do audios: BF works with lots of different actors, and nearly all of them are always saying in the extras how nice people there are and what a pleasant experience it's been (also, the lunches are apparently great).
