Good.

Dreamworld is where it is at.
>>
>>63239095

Deep Rising wasn't a bad attempt. But yeah, trying to turn Lovecraft's intangible cosmic horrors into a movie seems like a waste of effort. Hell, if Lovecraft had been around long enough to see Godzilla, he'd probably have shit himself in the theater.

Mouth of Madness was so good I have no idea why Lovecraftian horror didn't become a thing
>>
>>63239288
It could actually really work, think of the 4th wall possibilities.

His short stories like Polaris, Old Bugs, etc, could be easily fleshed out to be a feature length.
>>
>>63239209
It's seems more doable, now, more than ever with the advances in CGI technologies
>>

>It's seems more doable, now, more than ever with the advances in CGI technologies

The point of lovecraft is you never 'see' the creatures. While the environments they are in are out wordly. It doesn't have anything to do with technology, I think anyway. It's more the fact the general audience wouldn't want to not see the monster, if you get me?

Look at cloverfield for example.
>>
>>63239384
>The point of lovecraft is you never 'see' the creatures

Well, no I mean he has published illustrations of his monsters that he has submitted to magazines. The monsters are easily perceived. I think what makes them so horrific is not only their appearance, but the context in which they exist.
>>
>>63239384

Even Lovecraft's characters never give a great description of the creatures. In "The Shunned House" all they see is an elbow and immediately set out to destroy the thing.

You can't really "out" a guy as a racist when one of his stories contains a cat named "Nigger Man."

Or another story where a guy's uncle dies after being "Jostled by a negro."
>>
>>63239585
He was racist in his early life but I think he became less and less racist/xenophobic as he grew older.

However, you can definitely see hints of racism in his different stories.

That, and the fact something like Cthulhu can exist means that the universe is a massive, bizzare place in which human life is totally insignificant. It's like coming home to find your front door open; an open door isn't scary in and of itself, it's what that fact implies.

It would probably just end up like Every other large monster movie. Godzilla 1998, and such.
A movie based around Nyarlathotep could be good. Although, you would probably have to market it without revealing Nyarlathotep, because it might ruin the plot if people knew about him.

While it does Lovecraft very well for the most part, it can't fully commit since it's a video game where you kill increasingly powerful things.
>>
>>63240976

He wasn't really defeated. His head was split open, but as soon the captain looked back, the wound was rapidly healing. Also, Cthulhu was asleep for thousands of years so it was sort of a cheap shot. The ship NOPE'd the fuck out of there. It wasn't a showdown or anything.

The Elder Things and Shoggoths are actually described in painstaking detail. And not just their phisiology, either, but their culture, architecture, and history. The entire arc of their civilization is just straight-up spelled out in narration.

At the Mountains of Madness is, in a big way, a work of world-building. It ties together a lot of the "mythology" (such as it is) that he created and puts it in a timeline. It kind of functions as a History of All This Crazy Shit I've Mentioned.

Well, the fact that a boat can hurt it kinda ruins that.
>>
>>63243557
But the boat does not actually hurt him. Sure it makes a large hole through his head and brain, but it does not kill him. He regenerates his own fucking brain after the boat crash. He's immortal. Sure you might slow him down with nuclear missiles, but he eventually regenerates over again and again.

But it should be remembered that Cthulhu is not strongest beign in Cthulhu Mythos. He's not a god, he's just a priest. He's just one of the great old ones sleeping/beign dead in R'lyeh.
