But that doesn't make science bullshit, science is the constant search for knowledge, and the very scientific process implies that you're going to be wrong sometimes, trial and error, re-evaluating hypotheses are central to the process.

One of the current ideas in physics explains it pretty well. I can't point out the intricacies, but it was explained to me by my professor. Basically, if you add up everything in the universe, it equals 0, in the same way that 1 plus -1 is equal to zero.
