What's with the obsession with "Resistances" that Amazon had to add one that wasn't in the book?
When Japan and Germany were occupied IRL, the latter being partitioned into zones controlled by individual Allied nations, they didn't have persistent organized armed resistances.
So why does the fictional occupied America have such?

Because unlike PKD, who accepted that almost all Allied countries that were opposed to the Nazis politically had populations that almost entirely agreed with them from a moral standpoint. Everybody hated commies, everybody hated gypsies, everybody hated homos, nobody liked Jews and many hated them, most people still don't like them despite the fact that the media, completely controlled by Jews, projects the opposite.
A conquered America would have extremely resistant to the Japanese, but the fact that ~60% of wartime America was composed of German immigrants and the descendants of German immigrants means that a Nazi occupation would have been a lot smoother than modern media revisionism likes to project.

They did in the book, it was a puppet state whose army was used to topple South America just like before the war, and the only German interaction was in population correction/rounding up subhumans and upgrading industry/infrastructure.

It's mentioned somewhere (I think it was in the X-ray trivia) that America fought among itself between those who wanted to fight against the Nazis and those who wanted to capitulate to the Nazis. John was on the side of the latter.
His wife also mentions that his family lost everything in the Great Depression, hence his personal feelings about "the decadence that ruined this country before the war".
And it would be very strange if he was German but spoke German so poorly.

to start, the concept of a pan-Germanic identity didn't even arise until after Napoleon, anyone who spoke a germanic language prior to that landing in the Americas would have made things simpler culturally and politically by calling themselves German
and after 1840 or so, many American immigrants have a "German greatX-grandaddy" which means some random pollack, north italian, swiss, austrian, czech, jew, romani, dutch, belgian, russian, hungarian, random european tribe or family came to america from the austro-hungarian empire or elsewhere in europe speaking german as a lingua franca from wherever they were from and greatly benefited from keeping up the facade that they were German upon arriving on the docks because coming from any less acceptable of a background could get you ostracized, even putting up old Pennsylvania dutch barn stars on your house and learning alpine or country songs so you could blend in
