There's one kid who tries out for the role and he's fucking young Anakin incarnate, then George does his thing and inexplicably picks Jake Lloyd
There's actually footage of the casting call. He selected Jake because he was raw. George was also obsessed with race. He made sure Anakin and Padme had the same genetic makeup as Luke and Leia. He did this with Obi-Wan too.

The actors themselves don't look much like each other, but Ewan and Obi-Wan and Alec as Obi-Wan look very similar.

Ewan McGregor did a great job.He was the perfect version of a younger Obi-Wan. Its the script and the direction that screwed him over.

I feel so sorry for Lloyd. One of my childhood pals actually spent some time with him on a skiing trip when he was wisting where I live with his family. Said he and his dad were super cool, and so stoked to be in the upcoming Star Wars movie... Poor guy, did not deserved to have his life ruined by Lucas, angry fanboys and school bullies. None of it was his fault at that age.
