I find myself coming back to vs. Biollante, vs. Destroyah and GMK the most often. Recently I just watched Godzilla vs. Gigan for the first time, that was an amazing experience.also inb4 mothra. mothra fuck off ur twins are shit

I watch the movies on a regular basis and while I have favorites the original and Biollante are truy the best. The original is really somber and dark. Biollante encapsulates everything great abut the series (effects, crazy enemies, stories that really shouldn't work but do,etc).

I feel yeah. I hope the follow a scientist instead of a soldier because that was really my biggest problem with the American one. I always thought that godzilla needs to follow a scientist dealing with monster trying to juggle the military and that always made it more interesting for me atleast. I was thinking about the whole big nightmare thing and I couldn't wrap my head around it because I don't think a whole lot of people are really scared of godzilla anymore because of 50 years of child movies.

Biollante's really good. Its pretty topical in subject mater (for the time) and theres a point in the movie where one of the best setpeices in godzilla history happens during the Osaka Buisness District landing, its a super well done scene
Destroyah... for me at least didnt age to well, the monster scenes are great, but i thought the human parts were pretty flat, even by Takao Okawara standards

the first one is pretty good, albiet the kids get on your nerves. the second one starts out boring and the kids are worse, but the second half evens it out. the 3rd is mixed, but the kid is an older boy so he's actually better than the other kids

Kitamura was clearly a 70s godzilla fan, and as a fellow 70s fan i love him for that. I love movies that tell a great story filled with human emotion and development like GxMG and Terror of MG, but I also love fast paced balls to the walls action like GvsMG 1974. Final wars' only crime was that it didnt go even more over the top. it was an 8/10 on over the top scale when it shouldve been an 11/10

Like maybe a bunch of different intertwining stories that take place during the same time, kinda like trick 'r treat. Ever see that? Good Halloween movie.
or maybe a story of a gf/bf or parent/kid trying to find each other throughout the whole chaos. I do admit, that does sound cliche, but I feel like when that's done in movies you only see the story through one of the character's eyes, not both at the same time.
one anon in another thread had a fun idea of these insurance agents somehow try to steer the kaiju destruction toward certain locations too boost their business
maybe a story about a journalist or piece of shit blogger who's too stupid to know when to put down the camera and run
There's lots of different ways you can go about it, I just don't wanna see a story of a bunch of guys debating on what they should do, and explaining to the audience why certain things are happening. You gotta let the audience figure that stuff out for themselves. That's something cloverfield did right.
I loved the cheesiness of the kaiju parts in final wars
the cheesiness of the human story crossed a line for me. It went too far with it. And because the movie was 95% human I hate it for that.
I did like don frye in it though. He was the only good part. The rest gave me second hand embarrassment, rather than warm coziness that I want kaiju movie cheese to give me.

I also enjoyed Mothra vs Godzilla, Invasion of Astro Monster and Godzilla vs Gigan well enough, but the only Heisei one I legit liked was Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II, and from the Millenniums, I really can't stand any of them apart from GMK and Godzilla against Mechagodzilla -- though as mentioned, I do rewatch the monster scenes from FW from time to time.
For me, the rest were either meh, mixed bags, outright horrible, and for some I just plain didn't take the time to watch them in full.
