How is it that a half-minute commercial is funnier than most of the second season?

I'm not a big fan of how often Rick breaks the fourth wall.
I mean, it's not always explicit, but he's acting as though he knows he has an audience. In the show it's strange when he does that, because he's often pretty upbeat and excited in those moments which goes against his usual curmudgeonly mad scientist persona.

Most of the time when food is depicted in cartoons it always looks gross to me(save for the krabby patty of course). I remember being a kid and being very turned off with the overly gooey cheese on the pizza in TMNT.
