>Last summer, it was announced that director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon) and his The Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker were working on an “inventive sequel” to 20th Century Fox’s Predator. Now, Dekker has revealed on his Facebook (via AVPGalaxy.net) that the script for the film has been completed and turned in.
>Details on the film are currently under wraps but producer John Davis previously told Collider: “The writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’”
>Black is no stranger to the Predator franchise either, having starred in the original film as Hawkins after having been brought on to help rework the 1987 film. He will direct the film from Dekker’s script, the story for which the pair created together. No release date has been set for the movie.

Black has 3-4 "in production" credits at the moment, and one, "Doc Savage" has been on the list for ten years.
Bottom line: his next directorial effort, The Nice Guys, comes out the middle of next year. Its success/failure will largely affect what he does after that, so any guessing between now and then is a waste of time.

That's pretty much how all the movies go, fresh cast with only a slight string of connectivity running through them, most of the leading back to the original movie, we never found out what happened to Dutch in Predator 2 and in Predators the govt chick mentions the said same jungle incident Dutch and company got caught up in.
