Nice defence mechanism.
You are now aware that you live in a world, a terrifying world, where there are people right this moment who use terms such as "canon" and "cinematic universe" when talking about films and television shows.
A terrifying world where imagined characters on a screen are required, according to those who discuss them, to adhere to "ground rules" set out by the creators of said-characters. A terrifying world where those that discuss these characters and their actions, are actually enraged if said-characters deviate from the mannerisms expected of them, the mannerisms that may have initially been set in the pages of a comic book.
Think about that. A comic book. For children. Yes, pictures and words on the same page, which are meant to be read by children, that are actually read by adults who then bicker and express their frustration at film-translations of these comic books not being "faithful". Faithful to a comic book. That's supposed to be read by young children.
This is your world. This is the world of capeshit. Terrifying, isn't it?

Star Wars has always been a joke made to be funny to kids. Some video game made for teenagers doesn't matter. Jar Jar Binks is canon. Star Wars rebels is canon. Which means it is canon that the empire was held together through incompetency. The same group teenage and young adult rebels can infiltrate star destroyers, defeat hundreds of storm troopers, destroy imperial equipment, time and time and nobody does anything about it. Vader is a little bitch who never does anything himself so he sends his grand inquistor to hunt them down but he gets wrecked by a young padawan who never never passed jedi trials. This is what is canon. Yeah this story whole sucks.
So is it any surprise that a retarded video game is better then the dog shit that is canon? The canon is literally retarded especially after phantom menace and star wars rebels. That doesn't mean your video game isn't totally dogshit as well. Revan is a shit character. The whole story is the same bullshit that all Star Wars is with the same bad guys with red light versus the good guy jedis. Its all shit.
>>63180915
Video games are the ultimate storytelling medium.
>yeah! Like this evil sith lord like....can't even die! Because he's just so evil and stuff. His pain and suffering just won't let him die! He has no choice but to live on. It's so grim, hardcore and dark
>Then this other sith lord is like so über powerful, he like just swallows planets and the force and stuff. He just wants to exterminate all life because he's just so evil!
Wow so rich and deep. You've went from simple kids story to edgy teen fan fiction/deviantart.......what a jump
It's deeper than most games, Ignore these paid shills OP they are idiots who rejoice in their simple minded stories and Sunday morning cartoon tier villains
>liking ''Urgghh I'm gonna get ya xD cuz I'm bad :P!'' over ''We have reached a philosophical difference and outlook on the force teacher we must battle for the first time and for the last time''.

It is no more complex than Empire and RotJ. It's just less subtle about it.
As a takedown of morality of the first film and the EU it's fairly effective, but Lucas beat it to the punch by 20 years.

>>63184860
I did not say they are shit characters. I said they are minor characters. Sion, at least, is a very good character, and Nihilus is effective in the way he mirrors the player character. Look at them as characters and not as "bad guys." The pain and hunger are just symbols.

It's Chris Avellone REEEEEEEEEing for 20 hours about how how much Star Wars sucks. He's throwing a big fat tantrum over how SW has black/white morality and how that's somehow inherently bad and genre stories should all be grey morality because that's how HE likes it, so everyone else should too.
Go back to Alpha Protocol Chris, no one needs this.
>>63185108
at least it was compelling from a gameplay standpoint. grey areas mean more potential playthroughs.
>>63185108
MCA always loved Star Wars.
>>63184971
They aren't just symbols though.....they have ridiculous powers that become integral to how you fight them within the game......if you look at them as characters they're just as weak as Malak. 20 minutes of dialogue about how much pain you're in and how you can't die doesn't make you a good character
You're really trying to put kotor II in any light but the one it's actually shown in.
>>63185301
You're ignoring Sion's relationship with Kreia and his twisted crush on the player character. He is a symbol of abject failure. Everything--the pain he's in, his appearance, his manner of speaking, his goals--exists only to support that.
Also, he never talks about being in pain and he most certainly can die. An important part of his character is the refusal to die.
>>63185108
It's a different take and it's pretty overt in what's it's trying to do but come on man..
characters like zaalbar and mission and carth deserve to get shat on just a little.
>>63185645
Do you not see how fucking edgy/retarded it is for a villain to not be able to die simply because he refuses to?

Naw the first one suffered from generic EU blandness
Most of the EU always portrayed Force users as selfish, egotistical assholes who would flipflop allegiances at the drop of a hat. No real magic or morality towards their lives at all.

maybe it's just the nostalgia but I still think the first ones better

MUAAAHAAA THE FRENCH
>>63185108
But he doesn't hate Star Wars. Avellone read every single piece of Star Wars literature in the EU, the whole New Jedi Order series, all the books involving the Warlords, all the comics, absolutely everything. It's arguably a love letter to the franchise by turning the entire premise on its head. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you kids?
>>63187304
>maybe it's just the nostalgia but I still think the first ones better
It is the nostalgia. It's why most people consider KOTOR better, they haven't replayed it and laughed at the god awful dialogue and worn out Original Trilogy tropes.
>>63187304
the first one is mass effect.
the entire fucking game.

>>63187972

>better dialogue
>more interesting setting that doesn't just recycle the movies
>neat, dark atmosphere
>better writing and plot generally
>a soundtrack that is at least on par with KOTOR's, though once again, horribly underrated
>>63180915
I played this series recently and they're basically interactive childrens' cartoons. Very good cartoons, but still makes me think peoples' high praise comes more from childhood nostalgia than anything else. The Star Wars movies are on about the same level as kids' cartoons too but have inferior plotlines because until now they have been constrained by being under the control of an autistic manchild. Now the franchise under the control of studio execs who won't produce anything good because making something good is too risky and they have no incentive to take risks when the weight of the brand name will carry them over the finish line by itself.
>>63188050
I agree that the gameplay is more flushed out in the second one. I remember the one thing that really bothered me was the running animation with melee weapons.
I haven't played either game in awhile. Ive beaten both at least 4 times and this thread makes me want to go back and replay them both.
>>63188169
>Ive beaten both at least 4 times and this thread makes me want to go back and replay them both.
I would do so, especially if you haven't played the second one with the restored content patch. You would have missed gems like this which improve the game massively.

>Isn't this a niche game?
Is that a joke? KOTOR is one of the most popular and normalfag games in existence, it was a major Xbox game and it's sold millions. The second game on the other hand is far less known, and is considered by most a broken mess, keep in mind most people who played the game did so when they were 10 years old however, and 1 is far greater on the surface.

Man, I was excited as fuck when I got suprised like that as a kid. Sith Lord doing Lightning storm on a huge group with only 5% FP depleted feels fucking good.
>>63187127
That's not what the game is about, at all.
Kreia is basically an edgy fedora tipper who hates the force because she believes divine Providence destroys free will, and that the force will throw away billions of lives just for some semblance of balance. The Jedi are a bunch of out of touch elitist faggots who would rather debate philosophy than save lives and the Sith are violent retards who would burn the galaxy to the ground just because it's there. While the two factions fight endless wars over their faith, the rest of the galaxy suffers. The exile learned to live without the force, and Kreia wants to replicate that on a grand scale to kill the force
>>63180948
