because it's partly based on a true story, because it has a real sense of style (people accuse bay of overdoing things and that may be still a little true here but i think he does well here), like it actually has some subtlety, the music is cool, there's a lot of funny moments, but more importantly, the story and the message it conveys. you hear voice over from a lot of characters. mainly from wahlberg, but also the guys on the other side, giving it a balanced and objective feel. that movie, despite wahlberg's character being kind of an amateur, is about being an entrepeneur, about bettering yourself every day, THAT'S the AMERICAN DREAM.

wahlberg's voice-over is surprisingly deep, in the very beginning of the movie, he's a meathead, but talks about real things, like "the hardest part of changing yourself, is changing how others see you" and even in the end, well, i don't wanna spoil it, but it's imo the most inspiring movie i've ever seen.

literally the only flaws: the director's name is "Michael Bay", the marketing for it is "A Michael Bay action movie with a twist of comedy". If you go into it with a clear mindset (don't watch the trailer), you'll appreciate it more.

I feel the same way. I was interested when I first heard it had been adapted, but the new ad makes it look like a generic action movie.

I have to say, though, a lot of trailers in the past couple of years seem to really badly represent their movies. I've even seen movies advertised with multiple trailers, each of which gives a completely different impression of what kind of movie it's going to be. It's very weird.
