ITT: A director's best
I'll start with pic related

That's not Raging Bull.
>>63165682
absolutely not
>>63165682
You did it!
>>63165682
Sharon Stone kept that movie from being perfect
>>63165682
That's not Taxi Driver
>>63166646
Incorrect. The Theatrical Cut of this film is his best.
>>63166802
Yeah, I meant the Theatrical Cut. This just happened to be the image I have on my comp.
>>63166802
>muh boat scene
Top kuk
Insomnia
>>63167184
nigga Kubrick's best is Eyes wide shut, that is a fact
>>63169118
>>63167184

>dat dinner table scene
Allen's a god (inb4 irony)
>>63170194
I was wondering the other day if woody allen made any films that didnt look like hot garbage and now I know he did a film with based Sven Nykvist. Gonna watch this one. Thanks anon.
>>63165682
memetastic post my firend
inb4 not Pain & Gain
>>63167414
How is this garbage better than Memento?
>>63166403
his only good feature film
I just think it's his most mature and least "irony protects me from criticism" film. This and Bottle Rocket. I've seen all of his stuff.
>>63170905
the prestige is more of a movie than memento. memento is like a theme park attraction with a shitty plot being supported by a single gimmick
>>63170905
Watch Memento again and pay attention to Ned Ryerson's character. That needed to be cut from the script entirely, or it needed to be untied from the twist revelation. It's so clunky and awkward, as it stands.
>>63170990
Hah. Wes Anderson is a joke
>>63170990
I'd go Royal Tenenbaums.
not M not Metropolis
Inland Empire
>>63167184
>>63169118
>>63169578
>>63169817
>>63170139
>not A Clockwork Orange
What the fuck is wrong with you people?
>>63171004
>gimmick
It's the crux of the fucking movie, you might as well the non-linear structure in Pulp Fiction is a gimmick.
>>63171320
Tarantino didn't direct A Clockwork Orange, my friend.
>>63165682
Le Bete Humain is Jean Renoir's best.
>>63171333
It is. Doesn't make it a bad movie, though, and Memento's doesn't make it a bad movie, either.
>>63171403
Gimmick implies it's superfluous though. Unnecessary.
Goodfellas
A Clockwork Orange
Memento
Alien
Pulp Fiction
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Big Fish
>>63171431
I agree that the term "gimmick" is a little flippant, I'm just saying that those particular devices could be called gimmicks. Same with something like 500 Days of Summer's little time jumps back and forth.
Love that movie too. Still a gimmick.
I like both films, just saying.
>>63171471
I'd go -
Taxi Driver
A Clockwork Orange
The Prestige
Alien
Reservoir Dogs
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Batman
You have good taste though, senpai.
Eisenstein's best film was The General Line.
>>63171568
>Batman
Good call. thanks do you too desu
>>63171717
You do too*
Would delete but i liked my 3 17s
>>63171471

Blade Runner
Jackie Brown
Empire of the Sun

>>63170990
I seen this movie over 5 times. I totally agree.
>>63176299
One of the best recommendations i have ever gotten from /tv/ was KMD.
>>63170990
I think royal tenenbaums was his most grounded and interesting tale.
>>63171471

the shining/2001

Black Hawk Down/Alien
kill bill/pulp fiction
Saving private ryan/Schindlers list

>>63176590
It's clearly Aldrich's best film by a mile. I hope to watch it again soon. Great location shooting is one of its many virtues.
>>63169817
>Barry Lyndon
I just watched it in the last couple weeks and it became my top Kubrick movie after that, perfectly crafted period piece about the rise and fall of a rogue. Best lighting I've probably ever seen.
Probably Burton's best work, movie was perfect for him.
>>63176809
>location shooting
Fastest way to make a great film even better
>>63165682
Scorsese jumped the shark with that flick. Come on now.
Malchick
Probably Beatty's best, at least for me.
>>63177685
I'm torn. I think it's Badlands for me, but only by a smidge
>>63178566
This. Inb4 Fargo or The Big Memowski.
