This pisses me off just like the OP webem, they arnt even a few hundred meters from the cruiser and fighters are already on them, why is the cruiser so low to the ground if they dont already have a defense infrastructure down? AA should have taken those fighters out 15 miles ago, why doesnt the cruiser zap them? Why wasnt things like landing pads and runways taken out from orbit? Why is the cruiser out of orbit if nothing friendly is on the ground?

At least with the battle of hoth they had armor support and the element of suprise, as soon as the AT AT's had taken out the generator then it was all ogre, and the battle of hoth was a fucking steamroll victory for the empire, they werent just running on foot through everything

There was also a some episodes of the cartoon where they Jedi sent a map reader and some droids on a covert mission. They sent him because he was small enough to fit inside an astromech droid like R2. The Republic was having a big conference between their military commanders to talk about strategy. The CIS then began sending lots of encrypted traffic so they sent the guy to steal a thing that would let them decrypt the messages. They did this on their own without informing anyone in the military. So droids and the small worm guy get it but crash on the way back and get side tracked. They find a republic cruiser and get aboard it only to find it's overrun with battle droids. The CIS planned to crash the ship into the space station the Republic is holding their conference in. They managed to destroy the ship just before it crashes into the station but one of the republics light cruisers is destroyed by debris. When Tarkin learned about how they just barely didn't die he worte an angry letter to Palpatine.

The Jedi were just keepers of tradition of the old world, without any actual practice in warfare. Considering general peace was kept for the galaxy for so long that they never even had a standing army on pretty much any world.
