I think my favorite part of this episode was seeing Capaldi keep himself going by "talking to clara" even though she isn't there. Acting like the hero Clara wants to see even if it's for himself because he loves showing off.

Timelord energy in The Witch's Familiar (debatable), Sandman dust in eyes in Sleep no More, the image stuff in her eye in Under the Lake, then having a chronolocked demise from a winged creature in Face the Raven.

But they did, and that's why even after 2 billion years there's still room in the sea for new skulls
Let's say that one 'cycle' takes three days (it took him 1.5 days just to climb to the teleportation room after getting zapped by the vale). Every three days a new skull is added, which rounds up to 122 skulls a year. The first time we see the skulls is after 7000 years, so there should be around 854K skulls. 7000 years was enough time to leave about 30 meters of water depth. 2 billion years is more than enough time to fill that 30 meters with skulls were they not being constantly biodegraded

It would make sense but I doubt that they would go that far back in continuity to the American TV movie that wasn't that popular in the first place

I was hoping for dalek-time lord

I think it means "it's not the hybrid that conquers gallifrey but the doctor does"

I could see it being Game of thrones girl because they built her up all season but I don't like when they make the time lords total pusses just waiting for Doc to save them (though that often happens...I liked their short appearance in Genesis of the daleks best as just sending him on a mission and they can basically do whatever they want)

The hybrid is the Doctor - half Time Lord, half Human. Remember the 1996 episode? The Master finds out about the Doctor's biggest secret then. That's why he/she is the Doctor's "best friend" and has the confession dial because he never gave that secret up to anybody else.

I can't answer from the diamond wall, but another anon posited that buried slab wasn't reset each time because the energy field doing the resetting did not span below ground level.

One could then argue that maybe the field did not span room 12 either, this would explain the seabed of skulls, no reset, they keep accumulating ad infinitum.

Good explaination >>63146828
But how do you explain the slab not decaying over 2 billion years? It is always buried already before Doctor resets.

Nitpicking at this point but why does the teleporter leave only the skull from his skeleton? Why not vaporise the whole lot? My guess is Doctor purposely ensured the skull alone was left behind as marker for the next time.
>>
After millions of years, wouldn't there be so many skulls in the water that Capaldi would die upon impact?

>>63146880

Circumstantial evidence could lead to the conclusion it's to do with those little electrode things attached to it, but reality is just having a skull there is much more dramatic and easier to deal with than an entire skeleton being chucked into the sea

>>
>>63147003

>>
>>63146880
Moffat has said that he hated that reveal and as far as he's concerned it's just further proof that the Doctor lies.
The fact that the Doctor was later surprised that a half-human half-time lord could exist further supports this.

I didn't like the episode and it was difficult to understand to me. Why we never see Clara's face? Why was she writing on the board? It doesn't make sense. >>63146964
It makes sense, but I think 'Me', plus the Doctor stating that the Daleks would never allow a hybrid, is a (clever) distraction from the fact that there are countless Dalek/Timelord hybrids the Doctor isn't aware of - and DalekTimelords + Master will make a better archenemy than Ashildir (Ashilda?).

What an absolute DISGRACE this story was. A sheet of cloth as the villain? Trapped in a castle? A wall of diamond? AND GALLIFREY?!

The Doctor goes back in time to use the teleporter on Clara moments before she dies. She's teleported in the street over and over and over again, just like the Doctor in his confession dial.

Uh, if it's a concept Moffat likes, he can use it where ever.

Bit weird mate.

Why would the audience cheer for a villain regenerating into a black woman?

Top Gear being gone probably helped Doctor Who a lot since it's likely now their biggest international show.

True, simultaneously a good and a bad thing.

So was Top Gear though, I'm confident Capaldi won't sock Moff if he doesn't get some steak ad chips after a shoot.

Hit the nail on the fucking head.

In terms of merchandise and DVD sales it already was, Top Gear is just king in terms of TV rights.

Top Gear isn't gone anyway, they are rebooting it with new presenters. It won't be as popular any more but they still own it and all those episodes.

I'll give it one episode before I drop it.

They have to appease the Tumblr crowd because we know we're not getting a female Doctor or POC one any time soon. So what a better way to do so than introducing plot-relevant characters such as Missy regenerating from the male Master and the female General regenerating from the male Time Lord General?
>>
>>63147736
I think this was just BBC Controllers antics.
>>
I dropped this shit somewhere during Matt Smith. Is the Capaldi stuff worth picking it back up?

I didn't really mind Matt Smith honestly, but the fan base was annoying me, his episodes weren't great, and the random humor cutesy stuff was bugging me.
>>
>>63147701
Individual episodes of Doctor Who are worth more though. A new monster is toy rights for years, posters, DVD sales, appearances at Conventions, etc. Doctor Who is a marketer's wet dream, it's constantly producing new marketable content and has a giant worldwide ridiculously fanatic fanbase that keeps growing.
>>
>>63147763
They're clearly setting it up for a female Dr.
>>
>>63147512

Wow, she looks a little like a more modestly chested Hayley Atwell.
>>
>>63147773

I think they will go there. Doctor's rallying up gallyfreyan cowboys against the time lords in the Citadel it seems.

It's Europe, over here we can have titties in a movie for 6 year olds. America was the same, btw, you guys have plenty of PG movies with tits in them. This "tits are R rated" shit is pretty recent, even for your "sex is evil, but violence is a-okay" standards.

During Colin Baker's run there was an 18 month hiatus imposed by the BBC after all time low ratings.

Renowned scallywag Ian Levine smashed his telly and led the protest movement against the Beeb as a boycott.

This abortion came to as a result.

A tunnel might actually have been smarter, what was it 20 feet?

After the 10 feet mark the Veil wouldn't have been able to reach in, unless it's arms extended. But then the Doctor would literally destroy his fists and then crawl back to die after he's worn his arms down to the elbows.
>>
>>63147970
I loved fort boyart. I live in germany. I look all over the place for french episodes because the show is so awesome (and the german revival one a couple of years ago with "stars" instead of normal contestants was pretty bad).

They had to look for a clue, if I remember correctly.

I don't know history, but I read that there were lots of hiatuses this year and show probably wasn't this much in danger.

>>
>>63148040
It did resume for 4 years after, I don't know the history by heart either I'm sure there's something on wikipedia you can read up about this.

The 18 month thing was bit freaky I think because DW hadn't had a hiatus since it started in '63. It caused people to speculate and fear that the Beeb really was attempting to axe it. Also there was some really nasty business with the fan clubs and mailing lists going around at the time. Also JNT, Colin Baker, Michael Grade(BBC Controller) and one of the two sleeping with the other's wife(I think it was Grade).

Honestly though I have no idea why this show is so much hyped, I tried to start to watch it at least 3 times, but the stories are weak, the production cheap, acting is medicore.

There is no larger story line, just a guy going from one time to another, doing some shit.

It's like a daily procedural show. No big story arc, just monster of the week.

I'm sorry man. this show just isn't for me.

Big Finnish does this by having the characters describe what they see all the time (instead of having a narrator do it). The Discworld books do it all the time as well, it makes for surprisingly good exposition.
>>
>>63148071

The thing is plenty of actual minorities find it just as ridiculous as white people, too. From a historical standpoint it's actually kinda offensive, it implies these people were being allowed here and were able to operate within communities that would not have fucking accepted them.

Remember when historical Doctor Who episodes actually tried to teach you something about past events? They've definitely lost their way.
