The world ending actually played a very background role. The point of the movie wasn't the world ending, it was about revealing what really mattered within these characters' lives. I thought it was a beautiful look into the human condition

Sounds like you were focusing on the wrong things, then. None of the characters ever have a discussion about the actual end of the world that lasts more than one or two sentences - it's all alluded to in background broadcasts. It was just a backdrop that provided the uninhibited attitude of the film and the bittersweet ultimatum of the characters' time left on earth
