I kind of got that impression. I can see the list format being useful for sharing though. Despite the pile of meme replies somebody actually did comment on my list of my favourite movies and seemed interested in seeing a few of them.
Most of the reviews I looked at were pretty awful but 1 in 100 are actually very good. It's fairly easy to tell whether somebody knows their stuff or not just from how they write so it's a bit of work but it is possible to get good advice and insight from Letterbox, or at least it seems that way to me after spending a little bit of time there.

I tend not to recall mediocre movies that I watch. I barely remember watching Sinister, I remember a lawnmower. Horrible movies I'm okay with, great ones too.
I think it's neat to look back at the end of the year or month and see how many you've watched. Also since I don't have many people around me I can talk movies with, the website serves that purpose.

I still don't know if I really like it, I realize it's a good film, technically, everything impressed me, the actors, the sets, locations, visuals, themes etc..
But it was the longest fucking movie I've ever seen. I saw the 3h20mins Redux version and it felt longer than King Kong 2005 and LotR3 man. So I can't say it kept me interested the whole time unfortunately.
So I gave it 2 1/2 stars but gave it a Like until I see it again or read about it, talk about it more.

I haven't seen this version, but I think it's universally considered to not be very good and to include mostly superfluous detail. I'd recommend watching the regular version instead the next time you decide to watch it; it's like an hour shorter, so it doesn't drag. If you enjoyed everything other than the length, you'd probably like it a lot more
