The thing with Bond is that it's wish fulfilment, as someone above said. The problem is that each generation has different standards.

I'd say if you're 25+, watch Brosnan first, especially Goldeneye. If you're under 25, watch the new ones with Craig first, then think about checking out the old ones
.
I love the old ones but if oyu don't sort of understand what it's going for, it can get boring. You have to key into the mindset of "this is what every young man wanted, when it was released."

I realize it's a popularly-recycled meme-opinion at this point and I'm only making myself look like a pleb who hates classics by voicing it here, but the underwarter shit slows the pace of the action and generally drags the movie as a whole down. Quantum is barely a movie. Spectre falls to shit in the third act but Quantum barely holds together at all.

Die Another Day is still the worst for me.

>build a sun-powered death lazer

Such small potatoes. At least threaten to blow up the White House with it or something, you built a fucking death machine and that's all you can think of to use it for?

The concept of a media mogul Bond villain triggering international incidents as fodder for news coverage is sort of neat, but the film reveals way too much of the details of his plan to teh audience before even his first meeting with Bond, and the general action lacks a lot of the flair that made Goldeneye stand out.

Living Daylights is ridiculously underrated because Dalton's period was brief and it "lacks humour", that is, the self-parodying Roger Moore. Also the plot actually makes sense instead of just having a luxury hotel kidnap scene, and the girl is a real person instead of a plot device called Pussy or Sphinx or whatever.

Well the villain was closer to a realistic cold war character. The german turbo assasin was decent.

It's one of the few Bonds that you could actually call an "espionage film".

The Spy who loved me is THE quintessential spectacle Bond movie.

It's damn near perfectly executed without any major hitches.
The one thing that's kind of weird is that the fistfight with that one guy on the roof of that Egyptian house is pretty lame.

Especially considering that Moore had a really good, visceral brawl just one movie prior.
Look at the fight in the first third of TMWTG, probably the only good action scene in the entire film.

It came down after Thunderball.
There were ups, of course. But Roger Moore's era was shit with few execptions, Dalton films were strange, Brosnan had only one truly good film, just like Craig after him.

Tomorrow Never Dies is in my top 5 Bond. What an excellent movie. Never strays from formula, but that's not exactly a drawback in this case. Also
>that intro song
Sheryl Crow nailed it no matter what naysayers claim.

It's crrrrrrrap

The whole fucking movie is set in thay one ski-resort-tier location making it boring as fuck

The hypnosis angle is cheesy as fuck, even for camp Bond movies. It makes Moore-era look sophisticated

Brought Blofeld back and played by a different actor. Garbage

Also,

Moore is grand sometimes.
Only plebs hate on him.

Rewatched A View to Kill yesterday and while he's old as fuck, the movie still sort of works.

Also laughed at the fact that his interaction with the Bond girl is basically fatherly until the very last scene.
You can really tell that Roger was uncomfortable about doing chicks that could be his granddaughter's age.

It's kinda weird looking back to LALD and noticing how he looked younger than Connery back then, despite being older.

One of the more interesting things about Moore's Bond is that he plays him more as an intellectual than an assassin.
Whenever M asks "What do you know about X, 007?" he has a small dissertation on the topic. Hell, when it comes to being a wiseass, he gives Q a run for his money sometimes.

Also noticeable: he has a pretty large kill count, but he seldom actually shoots somebody. He usually uses the environment against them or tricks his enemies in some other way.

I guess this is to make up for the fact that Moore wasn't as physically imposing as Connery, but it also makes the two versions feel very distinct.

Dalton was almost like a mix of the two. A guy who could fucking go to town but who was also whip-smart.

If Aaron Sorkin had made the entire thing a parody where Steve was actually trying to conquer the world and Bill was his likeminded rival with Ballmer and Wozniak as their Igors, it would have been a box-office explosion.
