>Roman setting
>Everyone has British accents

>>63098835
Boys, what are the best gladiator movies?
>Roman setting
>its always about Germanians fighting the romans out in some snowy forest
>never about Parthia or the Sassanid empire and all the shit that went on at the Eastern front
I just want a fucking to see Cataphracts charging with no brakes, is that too much to ask for?
>>63098835
>Why do we permit this?
America gets to have all the modern day settings and accents so we took all the old ones.
>>63098936
Why not Italian accents then? It's closer
>>63098921
It would probably get labeled racist.
>>63098900
gladiator
>tfw have a cockney accent
Going to University and hearing all these posh accents on a day to day basis is killing me.
How am I supposed to take a Roman seriously if he talks like an american nonce
>>63098967
The slaves have Italian accents, posca and irene
>>63099065
Cockney is somewhat tolerated and easier to hide. Just be thankful you don't have a norven accent.
>>63098886
The emblem on the shield also is wrong. The 13th legion would have had a lion on their shield.
In fact the thunderbolt emblem was rarely used except for the Praetorian guard, 2nd traina, 11th claudia, 12th fulminata, and 14th gemina martia
>>63099065
>tfw I'm a brummy
>we'll never see a Mel Gibson film set in the Roman empire with actors speaking Latin
>>63098921
That's like... Uggghhh, so problematic and triggering, like just, ugh.. IT'S 2015 PEOPLE!

>Poor people talk like Cockneys

>>63099065
>not having a Midwestern accent
>not realizing a Midwestern accent is how God himself speaks
You britbongs drive me nuts with your oi's and ahhh's. Learn to speak American. Learn to love freedom
>>63098835
Because there is no nothing your pathetic excuse for an "empire" can do no more to stop it little bitch.
>>63098835
I've wondered this myself. I think it's mostly to communicate social status to the audience .
For example:
Atia is more well-spoken Lucius who is more well-spoken than Titus. There is a clear hierarchy communicated through speech.
That's just my theory.
>2015
>people still think Romans weren't black
WE WUZ ROMUNZ
>>63098835
The best movies in historical settings have American accents
>>63099394
My theory is Roman=European=British.
>>63099250
What did they speak? Swahili? Dey wuz kings, youknow.
>>63099284
They spoke vulgar latin, and greek. It's like comparing modern english to ancient one.
Grab a book before I have you castrated, insolent fucking barbarian scum.
>>63099413
KINGZ N QUEENZ WHITE MEN BE STEALING OUR GIBS!
>hellenic greek movie
>no one has any armor
>>63099449
That's the first thing you thought about?
Jesus christ.. Get help.
It's because the English accent is somewhat exotic or at least different for Americans and therefore makes movies about other peoples more authentic to them. The class accent part just goes hand in hand, it adds to characterization.
>>63099448
Well, it's an English language show. Most English speakers would have a difficult time distinguishing subtle differences in Italian accents. British accents pretty clearly denote who is a pleb and who is a patrician, without having to say it outright.
>>63099532
I don't think anybody thinks the armor in 300 was accurate
>>63098835
>mfw those two roman movies used the same fucking set piece
why is this allowed?
>>63099451
>They spoke vulgar latin, and greek
Wrong, only the Greeks and the upper class Romans spoke greek. Everyone else (90% of the populace) spoke purely Latin you dunderhead.
>>63099698
It still triggered my autism
>>63098835
>Broom on head
Why is this allowed?
>>63100177
It's aerodynamic, helps them move swiftly.
>>63099394
>it's a "Lucius gets mad and Kevin McKidd lets his Scottish accent out" episode
>>63098835
>I seriously hope you barbarians don't do that anymore
>>63099532
I dig naked Spartans. Has sort of a romantic/mythic feel to it.
>>63098835
1) So they can show it's a "classical" historical rendition,
2) No other kind of accents so they don't offend the Wops.
