As a character, what was redcloaks problem?
Had he endured a bad day and felt like taking some aggression out on one individual?
Did it sexually arouse him?

You do realize this movie has nothing to do with secret societies, right?
You do get the fact that the setting was a metaphor, right?
You do get the concept of social hierarchy, masks, protocols and sex where symbolic for how fucked and dishonest society is, right?
You do get that the movie was about a man that lost interest in his life and tried to find purpose in the meaningless maze of social competition and primal trials, right?
Only to discover there is nothing at the end of the rainbow after all, right?
And that he finds out that the stability of this normal life had more [self guided] purpose than decadent debauchery and the alienation competition and social order brings, right?
The fact his wife finds the mask and realizes he found his way back, right?

But I guess "OMG CONSPIRACY AND SEX MAGICK!" works too.

>>63096266
That's not in the movie at all.
The only true hostage in the film is Tom's character, and that's supposed to be symbolic of the way social hierarchies deal with the ambition of others, especially younger individuals.
>>
>>63096199
fucking great
>>
>>63096335
but the daugther literally walks away with two illuminati guys. you have to pay attention.
>>
>>63095265
This is correct. I liked the movie, but it wasn't particularly challenging.
>>
>>63095376
Cause Tom looks newbie as fuck.
>>
>>63096434
That's the shop cleaners daughter, not Tom's characters daughter.
And it's symbolic of how debauched culture is spreading.
Earlier he tells men to leave her alone, but later he's for it.
And there is zero point to claiming they were "illuminati"... in fact the term "illuminati" isn't used once.
There are hundreds of "secret societies" in the world.
But it's all symbolic.
If you actually believe the world is run by the illuminati and the film was a warning, then how do you think the film got made and screened?
....?

The film is a clear metaphor.

but the freemasons are real and you can find all those symbols I mean you can't deny it. it's all over wikipedia it's not like I'm making this up. and all those references to the rockefellers and brainwashing I mean... imagine if Freud had seen this shit.
>>
>>63096646
1.) Yes, the Freemasons are a real fraternal order that uses religious symbolism to teach their inner members symbolically related truths.

2.) The Freemasons are not the Illuminati, nor controlled by it. The Illuminati were an Atheist Bavarian Society that sought to infiltrate other Fraternal Orders in order to slowly change their thinking, moving it towards Empirical Thinking and Symbolism. It was squashed, and they never achieved any power.
The Freemasons and Illuminati opposed each other.

3.) Rockefellers and the Roth[e]childs were just self-interest rich people. They aren't even in the top 100 richest anymore.

4.) Fraud and Jung were not scientific in any way. They used confabulator cherry picking.

5.) There are secret societies. They just use symbolism to teach common sense to rich stupid people, and make them feel like they're magical and part of an important order.
I would know, I used to run a Fraternal Order.

6.) The APA has this to say on the subject:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APA_Task_Force_on_Deceptive_and_Indirect_Methods_of_Persuasion_and_Control

But the film uses these orders as metaphors for >Cliques and Social Competition
That's all.
>>
>>63096813
yeah but that's what they want you to think. they operate in plain sight, that's what kubrick was trying to tell us!
>>
>>63095131
Tarkman's Solaris
>>
>>63096883
That's fairly childish, and I'll explain why:
1.) There is no evidence
2.) Burden of Proof
3.) Appeal to Paranoia/Fear
4.) Blame Shifting
5.) Argument From Ignorance
6.) Cherry Picking
7.) Implausible Organization of Humans and Systems due to Human Error
8.) You seem to cycle in circular logic and thought-terminating cliches.

People are too stupid to be controlled.
That's the problem.
It's not that they're too stupid to be free.
You can't control a population of fucks with narcissistic and paranoid personality disorders.
It just doesn't happen.
>>
My Complex Analysis professor enjoys Michael Bay movies. Now tell me there's a correlation between movie taste and IQ.
>>
Eyes Wide Shut discussions are among the stupidest on this board, though. 80% of the reasons people like, discuss, or revere the movie have NOTHING to do with what the movie is actually about. I guarantee whenever anyone on this board beats off over EWS, they're likely to be a huge moron, OP included.

>>63096335
Watch the ending again, your embarrassing analysis of the film is cringe worthy. It's not illuminati for sure, but it is dealing with the occult. To down right deny it is fucking absolutely retarded, the toy store at the end has magic circle play sets at the end you fucking mong. And yes the daughter get's kidnapped, your analysis is absolutely embarrassing.
>>
>>63097062
>>63097286
I agree with these. Eyes Wide Shut is good but people look at it the wrong way.
>>
>>63097457
Magic Circle is an actual toy, and just because something deals with the occult and has occult symbolism doesn't mean it's trying to be an expose. Next you'll tell me 2001 is a radical statement against technology. The fact of the matter is that the film ends on a character note, and the entire movie is about relationships. Can you dispose of the occult surface-level motifs and still have the same movie? Yes. Can you dispose of the relationship problems and the paranoia it creates and have the same movie? No.

>>63096199
>claims this is an intelligent movie

beating your average I see, /tv/
>>
>>63097547
The entire party is literally kabballist tantric orgies, you are fucking retarded, of course the magic circle is a real toy, but it's not there for that purpose, it's there to represent the Sumerian circle.. And yes Bill's daughter get's kidnapped at the end, Alice was in on it and tried to distract it. And no you can't dispose of the occult themes in the movie, because the movie has so many occult props it's ridiculous, to say "it was a metaphor" is completely asinine, it's like saying Full Metal Jacket isn't a movie about individuals being reprogrammed by war, it's about some metaphoric endeavor into the psychosis of male insecurity. Fuck you and people who are even on the same wavelength. You are an embarrassment.

It doesn't. That's only how society viewed him. If you watched it, you'd see Jesse was the coward in reality, not Bob.

>>
>>63096180
You act like what you state is fact. Truth is filmmakers leave a lot to interpretation. To state that this movie has nothing to do with secret societies is nonsense. There's a detailed article explaining a lot of symbolism these socieities use and probably what Kubrick meant. How can you not see this was about secret societies? Dig a little deeper in Kubrick's life and you'll probably get the hint.

Space Odyssey was just really shitty. Most people who believe only people with at least so or so IQ will appreciate [enter flick here] are actually sub-average in IQ, which is the only reason why they can enjoy it: it makes them feel smart.

t. 164 IQ officially tested.
