And that trailer was weak and uninspiring. I think it's because Tarantino is just losing his touch, it's very unlikely he will ever be able to make anything as successful as Pulp Fiction. His next movie: Kill Bill: Episode 1 Volume VII is a retreat back to low risk sequel-making.

Martial Arts movies weren't hugely popular when Kill Bill came out. I suppose WW2 is a popular film setting but there aren't that many Jewish revenge films set in that time. Westerns weren't more popular when Django Unchained came out than they are now. arantino is the ultimate director for making plebs/normal/average moviegoers feel like they're watching something "artistic" without having to actually use their brains. It will sell a shitload of tickets just because people want to say they saw the newest Tarantino.

I was in 3rd world Asia during the time that trailer came out, came home like a week after. Never heard of the trailer. Never saw it shared, linked to, or talked about anywhere only a WEEK after its release. I legit didn't know there was a trailer for this movie.

memes aside, hateful eight looks to be about nothing in particular. nothing stands out as being interesting, there's no hook. if it didn't have tarantino's name on it, i bet it wouldn't do shit at the box office.
I do think there's a good chance H8ful 8 will do relatively poorly compared to his previous movies, given that it looks pretty much like every other movie he's made post JB.
Most casual movie goers can stomach the same movie being made over and over again, if it's "entertaining" enough, but I think even casuals will find this one too repetitive. Just uninspired, 2D quirky characters, a few superficially tense sequences, and a few flourishes of cartoon violence, in another setting that clashes with all these elements, as WWII-occupied France and 1850s American South did.
