Reminder also that in Lucas's original cut Luke makes two attacks
>>
>>63092643
Because the Death Star's main defences were all around that part.
They knew the exhaust port existed and it was appropriately defended from a front assault.

So the Rebels needed to slip in along the trench and get beneath the main defenses
>>
>>63092749
lol

Also as I understand Luke Skywalker is based on Mick Jagger from this clip which Lucas participated in making

>Its defenses are designed around a direct large scale assault. A small one-man fighter should be able to penetrate the outer defense.
>Well, the Empire doesn't consider a small one man fighter to be any threat, or they'd have a tighter defense.
>But they're so small they're evading our turbolasers.
>We've analyzed their attack, sir and there is a danger.
>>
>>63092934
Yeah exactly.
That's what I said
>>
>>63092773
>Because the Death Star's main defences were all around that part.
You just made that up.

>They knew the exhaust port existed and it was appropriately defended from a front assault.
No, it's only midway through the battle they realize it's a weakness.

The defenses are said to be against big ships, and X-Wings are too small to hit. Jack shit about how they're all around the port.
>>
>>63092982
>Because the Death Star's main defences were all around that part.
>Its defenses are designed around a direct large scale assault.

So no, the main defenses were not about defending the exhaust port. They were about defending against starships.

>They knew the exhaust port existed and it was appropriately defended from a front assault.
>We've analyzed their attack, sir and there is a danger.
So, no, they didn't plan for it being attacked, they just figured it out.

>So the Rebels needed to slip in along the trench and get beneath the main defenses
>But they're so small they're evading our turbolasers.
They didn't need to slip by anything because they couldn't hit fighters.

Here's what we know
>The Rebels attacked by going along the trench
>Their briefing said that the exhaust port was defended from a major frontal assault
>Half way through the fight, the Imperials realize there could be a danger.

So putting two and two together, it's obvious that there was something different around the exhaust port, used primarily to defend against capital ships, that made it impossible for starfighters to approach.

Like, fuck guys, they said everything except for precisely what you want to hear.

Use some inference once and a while.
>>
>>63093089
>>Their briefing said that the exhaust port was defended from a major frontal assault
So you're just whole sale making things up. The briefing says the DEATH STAR is protected againt a major assault, not that the exhaust port is defended against a frontal assault. There is no point continuing to post when you'll lie every time. Goodbye.
