When was the last time you saw a movie that provided a proper spectacle? What I mean by that is what was the last movie that provided an experience unique to the sound and picture you get in a theater (IMAX or otherwise)? An experience that you could not get watching the same movie at home?
wasn't that gravity's gimmick? "bro you gotta see it at the imax to really appreciate it"
it's a bad movie.

Bad movies can have spectacle too, which is why by no means should a movie rely on spectacle alone to sell itself. That said, it's sad that we haven't had a truly great movie take advantage of spectacle in a while, unless I missed something.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Before that, Tron: Legacy

Interstellar was more blockbuster than "spectacle"
Gravity was almost "spectacle" but just got tedious in the middle.
War of the Worlds(2004)
cause of the sound
The one that really sticks out is Gone Girl.
It was really tense watching it in the cinema. All the boyfriends shifty looks to their girlfriends.
The odd inputs of humour to knit together all that tension.
The awkward laughs when Amy does that hair flick thing after killing NPH.
>big cum on me titties
Seriously best cinema going experience ever. Definitely wouldn't have enjoyed Gone Girl as much if I watched at home or on my own.
I went with my friend, his gf and another girl from work.

I'd probably agree with this anon.
The soundtrack and the visuals of Fury Road are far better enjoyed in a theatre.
I would say Avatar.
2.5 billion dollars in revenue agrees.
