What is the deepest, most intellectual, most mature, most meaningful, most well-made movie of all time? Has anything surpassed 2001: A Space Odyssey?

well it definitely isnt an anime

It's good but not even close to 2001.

Every frame in that movie is literally a painting.

Nightmare on Elm Street 2
I'm serious.
>most meaningful
the funniest thing about 2001 is the ending with Dave getting old and the Spacebaby. People applied all kinds of elaborate theories about what it means when what actually happened was Kubrick wanted to do a much more extended ending with Dave going to an alien planet but the studio ran out of cash so Kubrick had to fudge it into a 5 minute ending.
all this is explain on the BluRay extras interview with Arthur C Clarke.
so for intellectual plebs thinking its the most mind blowing ending ever is fucking hilarious. it was glued on at the last moment.

A FILM BY WHAT LMAO
Possible troll question with impossible to define criteria, but A Woman Under The Influence is the most underrated American film when it comes to these kinds of discussions.
>>63067170
How does it compare to 2001? We're looking for the pinnacle of depth and intellect here.

GREAT TIER:
Raging Bull
The Cell
Clockwork Orange
Shawshank Redemption
OKAY TIER:
Let The Right One In
Schindler's List

SHIT TIER:
Lake Mungo
Kundun
The Sixth Sense
The Fourth Kind

It's a famous and critically acclaimed film, liking it would be the opposite of hipster. Learn your buzzwords before making yourself look stupid

that's why it's bullshit
never trust those extras. It's like when Goerge Lucas "wrote an sextalogy" but could only afford to produce a new hope. It was a classic Homer scheme: tell the story from the middle, not from the beginning.
>>63067823
The adults are talking here. What is the most intellectual movie you've ever watched?
>>63067299
Mental health, gender and sexual politics, the nature of American familial structures post WWII, what's normal and abnormal behavior and who gets to decide that and how often is it based on class, class structure itself. I wouldn't be able to compare it to 2001 as they're two different kinds of movies. One is about our place in the universe, one is about America. They're both good.
>>63067823
Read the fucking post you dumb /v/edditor
>>63067907
But /v/eddit loves animeme, you dumb crossboarder.
>>63067880
I'd probably say the Bergman's Seventh Seal,
however Highlander just beats it for Christopher Lambert's career defining role as a frenchman playing a Scotsman who is also American and who has a big sword.
>>63067886
I think I'll give it watch. Women are often oppressed even when we don't admit it. And mental health is pretty much subjective unless you're the actual person herself.

>Many years ago, when surrealism was new, Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali made "Un Chien Andalou," a film so shocking that Bunuel filled his pockets with stones to throw at the audience if it attacked him. Green, whose film is in the surrealist tradition, may want to consider the same tactic. The day may come when "Freddy Got Fingered" is seen as a milestone of neo-surrealism.
