National Treasure is the most fun I have had with non-LOTR adventure movie.

Okay, I'll give it a shot.

The treasure hunt is centered around Native Americans and the lost Roanoke Colony. Backdrop: the President of the last movie hired Cage to do secret shit since NT2 ended but has now served his term. Now, a new President has been elected and the movie starts a year or two after Cage's shitty division has been shut down.

>We appreciate what you did for your country, but in this day and age, treasure hunters are a misuse of taxpayer funds.

Riley gets some comfy government job. Abigail leaves Washington and is now doing archivist work in some small museum on Roanoke Island. She finds some historical important shit and tries to get in touch with Cage. She can't find him and contacts Riley. Riley eventually finds him, and Abigail explains all the shit she's found and the possibility of treasure somewhere.

Riley doesn't want to leave his job; and, whatever the fuck it is, Cage is too old for this shit and needs some help (he's been drinking for the past 3 years in Russia, mumbling something about nuking the United States of America). The only treasure hunter as good as Cage is Sean Fucking Bean (who is still in prison for the shit he did in the first movie) and they have to break him out in order to start the treasure hunt.

replace nic cage with brendan fraser

that's all I got

Bring back Sean Bean and actually kill him this time

Nick Cage is informed that Christopher Columbus once uncovered an ancient native-american artifact that unleashed a curse on all his people or something but also did something hugely beneficial for all of them.

He realized the danger and hid it away in a secret burial ground dungeon in Maine or Massachusetts or New York or something, but left clues behind in case he ever needed to use it again.

Many US Presidents including Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, LBJ, FDR, Nixon, and a few others have ventured into the depths of the dungeon to retrieve it to help in various conflicts throughout history with varying (and unknown) degrees of success.

Nick Cage knows someone is after it and the only person who knows more about it than he does is Sean Bean, who he has to break out of prison in the first act.

I'd watch it

>curse
I'm not sure about a supernatural element, unless it's just a myth—otherwise it's just a modern Pirates of the Caribbean. But I like the Christopher Columbus idea; and a Native American artifact really seem like the best way to go as far as the historical slant. Plus, bringing Bean back is a no brainer, like >>63064656 and >>63064778 said.

You're probably right about the curse being a real thing, that's more of an Indiana Jones type deal. I like the idea of breaking shawn bawn outta prison though

Nic Cage discovers the secret of the country that Abraham Lincoln was actually the first black president

the president (after the second movie) wants cage to find the real area 51 (since the aliens landed, the gov has been moving the base every few months - the aliens/tech), but after so many years and some power hungry general and his followers, the base is gone.

riley now works for the CIA close to harvey.
abigal works with the president.

cage has to work off the books (but is helped via info from rile and abigal), but the US can't be involved in knowing that a general has advance tech and has been using it to take out american enemies (shown by news clips/unexplained sightings/mysterious assasinations)

cage needs help (i liked the idea another poster posted up), and wants Sean Bean and his crew. in service to help, they will get pardoned.

cage and bean inform the gov that the general and his followers (they create a cult around the aliens) were trying to protect america.

scenes go from an oil rig, to high tech building, to finally some remote area (maybe a rundown warehouse in a city)

it is then shown that atlantis was an actual ship that was lost thousands of years ago that the natives uncovered it and used/turned it into a city, and later used by the humans to leave (or destroyed by the humans), and that the scout ship that was downed was actually looking for it.

The president is happy they find the tech/base but can't release the information to the public (something that riley hates, but comes to understand why). cage and bean are also happy that it has to be that way, but are worried that one day the aliens will return to find out what happened to their people.

ends with abigal, riley, cage, bean looking up into the sky, with cage saying that sometimes treasures aren't meant to be found, but the meaning behind hiding the treasure is what's really important.
