How modern?

There's Tombstone, The Quick and The Dead, Young Guns, Unforgiven, Quigley Down Under, Legends of the Fall.

2000's up there's Open Range, Appaloosa, The Alamo, Seraphim Falls, and uh...Hidalgo I guess?

Two decent ones that came out this year: Slow West and Bone Tomahawk.

The Hateful Eight soon, of course.

Like 3:10 to Yuma? So you want modern remakes of old Westerns that are just a little bit worse than the originals?
>True Grit (the one without John Wayne)
>The Alamo (without John Wayne)
>Django: Unwhited

Dang it, whenever Bridges sports that beard and hair, I can only think of him as Lebowski.

Recently made Westerns. It seems to be a dead genre nowadays.

From an objective standpoint I do agree with you, it is a plot hole. She is essentially a female /r9k/ reader in the old west.

She cooks. She cleans. She can work her own fields. She's badass.

I'd look into Australian westerns, it sounds odd but the harsh landscape means that the wild west still exists there.
They can make some great movies.
Change of scenery and the usual faces.
