Happy Thanksgiving Edition

Post your work, pitch your ideas, and pretend any of us are gonna make it.

Dedicated To: The Glassblowing Guy

My idea is to suck as much Jew cock as possible.

Will I make it?
>>
>>63054735
More than likely, but you gotta suck the RIGHT jew cock.

It's not about how many dicks go into your mouth, it's who's dick goes in.

Idea: A movie that doesn't follow dramatic structure

Guy is on the verge of losing his penis. Tries to hook up with as many girls as he can, they all reject him/treat him like a leper. Eventually settles for prostitute, it falls off while she's blowing him. I don't know how dark/bittersweet I want it to end though. I was thinking of having him say something along the lines of "I'm free" aftet it falls off

Been there. The worst thing you can do is work with friends. The dynamic is based on friendship and not around working.

Look for art clubs, strangers, students.
>>
>>63056042
The point isn't to just talk about it once. Have 4+ hourlong conversations about film shit or just whatever. The folks that stay engaged the longest are the ones that you can build something with. In order to get people on board with a monumental task like a film, you have to be personally invested.

So these two guys who do movie marketing and have worked with a listers (De Niro was specifically mentioned) are giving a lecture next week about screenwriting, finding actors, cameras and also marketing related subjects. They're having a Q&A after.

Did you buy all that? How much did it cost?
>>
>>63057275
Definitely rent until you're sure you want to actually stick to it. I bought my wifes son a bunch of expensive equipment. He used it to make one half assed video of 11 minutes then never touched it again. Now it's collecting dust in my study. If anyone happens to be interested in a dolly tripod, a boom mic or a JVC GY-HM200E for a reasonable price let me know
>>
>>63057312
came with my tuition.
was also mac rapped by the college
for media its useful though

you need a dslr - 300-500 $
audio recorder - i use zoom h6 that was 400£ brand new
a tripod - anywhere from 50 to 500$
and couple of lights

thats it,with all of this you can make perfectly decent little short film that will win you awards at the festivals if its good.

PVC pipes cut into sections, make wheels from old/cheap skateboard wheels in a way that they sit either side of the pipes in a claw-like shape. Make sure to find wheels with good bearings.

This is the first image I found with a google search which is sort of what I mean.
If you can make reliable wheel attachments, what people usually do is carry those with them, so if they shoot on someone elses sets etc, they just have to go to the local store to pickup a base and pipes.

I don't want to wait forever. I honestly think a good story >>> pretty story. It can be the best looking film in the world but if it's boring or has no story no one will give a fuck. If it's a great story with strong characters people will forgive it for being shot on a phone, provided the sound is decent.

I have a couple scripts I think could work, but I don't have the equipment and I don't have money to spend at the moment. With debt, rent, bills and my other shit I won't be able to make big purchases until April at the earliest. Too long. I've put things off all my life. Can't keep doing it.

I can't play guitar but im going to make a violent, minimalistic soundtrack. Cant even hold the thing properly

Mostly night shots, open roads and woody environments

City lights the start the film, and to end it

A loner who is rejected by society sets off to find his meaning on the road

Film ends on a low point, featuring a robbery, depressed chase, surrender and death by cop

Too many of my film ideas feature slow story progressing, a loner, a car and structural shots

need to level out your background music so it doesn't over power the actual dialog from the clips

would like to see the background musics toned down a bit.
would like to see maybe you(or brought in actor) to narrate how you want the story to go.

Im still not fully clear on whether it is pro or anti mutism/islam and feel that a strong narrative would give more background to your opinion on the matter.

all and all (regardless of which side you fall on) keep up the good work. only forward from here. How do you think it effects the world that 1 and 4 people refuse to answer whether or not they support isis?
>>
>>63057354
exactly I had that in mind. Its just that people tend to ride on momentum. And usually people who make it later on (no matter what industry) need to pick up on a new momentum.

>>63057301
Just a momentum. Being young, passionate and slightly naive works. But people who flourish later on can ride on a different momentum. A midlife crisis is one of them.
>>
>>63058208
Disagree with these other anons, background music is fine. The powerful score is what makes these dull clips life and tone. If you can get the dialogue to cut through a little better with timing that would be ideal but the powerful score and imagery is much more important than the dialogue in this kind of video.
>>
>>63058269
Anti Islam as a doctrine and those who actually follow it not necessarily anti-people-who-happen-to-born-Muslim (with little real option) if you get what I mean
>>
>>63058383
>>63058491
>>63058648
Yeah the music overpowers at times, unfortunately some of the source dialogue was quiet as fuck so mixing was a little challenging
>>
>>63058491
The idea with this one was to kind of let the images let the audience draw their own conclusions so it didnt overtly feel like hate mongering but i get what you mean

I think its a genuine concern that people are trying to reconcile islam and western society when they're clearly mutually exclusive as societal systems
>>
>>63058700
them dubs

and good job all around. little polishing on the edges but nice. real good documentary feel to it. i think that the narrative woulda set it off though. that way you can push the viewer in the direction you want them to go. I found myself stopping to read the quotes a lot. so maybe a tad bit longer on the quote screens

also if I'm coming off dickish at any point i don't mean to be. just giving constructive criticism. I hear I suck at being gentle

Nah man I agree with you fully, nothing dickish about honest criticism

I'm working on a pilot at the moment and was needing to edit something to test out some flows and techniques with sound transitions and the current events seemed to swing me into putting that together

thanks for the critique man

with the narrative you could push them right up to that edge with still letting them make their own decision while still leading the story. I think islam from what i know about it is trying to cover up the real roots of it in attempts to make a one world islam nation. slaying any disbelievers along the way.

do i believe there are muslims who don't believe in hurting people, sure. but with a religion who is (currently) known for spilling blood to make a point is not the way society should be going. but then again i don't believe we should base our societal instincts on religion regardless
>>
>>63058780
yea i don't like to bite my tongue, it hurts. a lot of my peers have a problem with this. they take it as me being egotistical when in reality, id rather be brutally honest in my opinions to help further the creativity. some people just can't handle that so I've been working on trying to not come off as harsh but still not biting my tongue. we all have our down falls

>>63058791
Yeah the religion itself and the majority who practice it are welcome to do whatever they want in their countries where its clearly a failed social structure but when people try to justify that islam is malleable to western culture its honestly asinine. Every aspect of Islamic culture is more or less opposed to the liberties expressed in most democracies so its quite strange to see the media portrayal of it as the religion of peace and science when that couldnt be further from the truth

>>63058844
nice work dude, i do videography shit for nightclubs so i occasionally get some cool footage of some decent tier artists which is pretty fun
>>
>>63058845
its 2015 were words are the most offensive things in nature. everyones a crybaby now. i totally understand that christianity/Catholicism was a very dark violent religion but thats not how its practiced in todays society. and it goes on and on just add whatever religion you want. with islam it seems like its all about violence and hiding that fact that you support that, which in return ruins societies in my opinion
>>
>>63058866
Im trying to integrate my cinematography within my music endeavors to force people to give me what i want on the music end. Digital Cinematography is my back up plan for when/if i quit trying to be a rockstar which could be rather soon or not, who knows
>>
>>63058917
worst case scenario, i get a job working for media machine. which Ive always been fine with blood money
>>
>>63058888
thats the thing, at least catholicism acknowledges the interpretive nature of the bible, the amendments made in the new testament and the regulatory stipulations made by papal infallibility that brought catholicism to a more contextual relevance (e.g. Vatican II etc.)

In Islam the Qu'ran is the immutable word of Allah through his prophet Muhammed which means that any and all barbarism from those days is regulated as law to these days unfortunately

glassblower bro out. ill be on the look out for these threads in the future.

What are some good cameras? I'm very interested in recording my own stuff.
I'm very serious about it. I'm not talking about some cheap HD cameras to record shit for YouTube for vlogs or something. I want serious answers.

i'm going for an a7s but mostly because they're cheap atm and something i'm working on will be primarily low light

All my friends love talking about film, we do it regularly, but none of us ever actually do anything.

Save for like one or two people, and one of them's become a real film-school pretentious asshole.

OP here.

So refreshing to see an /fmg/ not overrun by retards telling us "what's the point? You'll never make it anyway".

Good job.

Never too late, I'm 37, went back to school 2 years ago to study film production. Got real lucky and got a job in post, granted I'm not editing at this job, more support but at least the subject matter is never dull. I do a few jobs on the side to fuel creativity.

Digital has really democratized film making, so if you really want to make your own short films there's no stopping you if you want it bad enough.

If you don't have gear, make friends with those that do, or purchase your own.

And there's no one path to get into the film industry, you just have to want it bad enough to do what it takes to get into it.
