Thoughts on avid?

>>63053265
It's shit. FCP a best.
>>
Do you really think the average /tv/ user knows about this editing software? They barely know what cameras are.
>>
>>63053265
Industry standard. I use it, but wouldn't have an aversion to using/learning something else if it made certain workflows easier
>>
>>63053323
Is it true the average film editor's salary is 50 k a year? Is it also true that they hate their job?

I ask because I'm looking into Editing for my career.
>>
editors are overpaid
>>
>>63053296
Well, now the people do webms or upload some shit in Youtube. They must be using some software.
>>
what's a good entry level one for all my personal home movie collection porn
>>
>>63053359
40-50k a year

>overpaid
>>
>>63053347
Not him but editing is probably the easiest field to get into in terms of film industry. It also depends on how you are as an editor and the production
>>
>>63053347
Depends on how many projects you can take on and deliver.

When you edit shit footage of shit acting in a shit movie/doc/advert/music video/etc over and over and over...
Honestly it's just like any other job, it's work.
>>
>>63053374
Movie Maker or IMovie if you want to try some hardcore shit.
>>
>>63053359
Color graders are overpaid.
>>
>>63053359
Depends on what you mean by editor. Is he truly just cutting footage together or is he wearing a shitload of hats and doing multiple positions on the same job like everyone expects?
>>
>>63053409
I'll agree with this
>>
>>63053409
This

Nig

50k is an assistant editor
>>
>>63053710
Then what is it for a main editor?

I'd much rather work as an editor than be screamed at on a film set for 16 hours a day.
>>
I like it but it's the only NLE I know atm. However I know in an office environment it's just more convenient than Premiere or FCP
>>
>>63053730
Well, it varies based on what track you're in, scripted, reality, corporate. I know reality editors make over 100k.
>>
Avid master race for 10 years now.

Rarely work with other things
>>
>>63053770
>100k

FUCK.

Work hours?
>>
>>63053791
Minimum 50 hours a week, but movies and TV always have a hefty amount of over time - deadlines have to be met even if you have to work late a lot.

Works different for reality and scripted though. Reality is non union generally so they aren't necessarily obligated to pay over time depending on your contract. Union gigs have strong rules in place that really make producers think twice before making people work over time.

But it's way harder to get into scripted then reality as an editor - you can't get a union gig until you're in the union but it's hard to get a union job without union credits. Real catch22

I've worked with a lot of editing programs for a production company.
Avid is respectable and is an industry standard.

Final cut 7 was godly but compared to modern programs with slower render speeds and lack of support it will remain in the past. (Maybe a 30sec commercial or brief edit work)

Final cut x pre 10.1 was a fucking disaster, buggy piece of shit program with complimentary buggy is at the time to go with it (mavericks).

Final cut x post 10.1, its okay, still no where close its predecessor. Still have die hard friends who lose hours of work from its autosave function and lack of a save button. Also having an entire project in a bin that if one value is changed whole project croaks is also retarded.

Adobe premiere buggy mess that I can't quit. King of the plugins program. Interchangeable with other adobe programs is invaluable for light graphic work.

Avid. Interface can look somewhat clunky but one thing its got is reliability. Needs a lot more initial setup and storage space but great for long projects. Plugins support sucks though. (Bread and butter for me)

Vegas - pffffffft, I guess, Sony editing programs feel alien to me, its functional though.

Edius- meh, also functional.
>>
>>63053265
I'm pissed that it seems like a prerequisite for any major editing job and all I know is premier and I can't afford anything else so I guess I'm stuck making wedding and bar mitzvah videos
>>
>>63054401
Just torrent 7.0
>>
>Avid
>not Premiere Pro or even FCP
T O P K E K
Coens cut in PP and the FX show Louie is cut in FCP.
>>
>>63053869
>you can't get a union gig until you're in the union but it's hard to get a union job without union credits
Nepotism. This is why they structure it this way.
>>
>>63054449
yep
not premiere or fcp
>>
>>63054449
Louie edits his show by himself, if you're working with multiple editors Avid will always be more practical
>>
>>63054449
Those are only good if you're doing solo edits. If you have multiple editors then Avid is better
>>
>>63054449
PP has started to rise into the mainstream in terms of films and hollywood shit but Avid is gonna stay the standard
