(Over images of people connecting to a red wifi linking the whole planet, via desktops, laptops, phones, etc. is a man on a staticky screen.)
NABILE: Danger. This is a warning. A warning to the whole world. You're looking for wifi. Sometimes you see something.
(He holds up a card with seven strange symbols.)
NABILE: A bit like this. Don't click it. Do not click it. Once you've clicked it, they're in your computer.
(A whole slew of weird symbols in the available connections list.)
NABILE: They can see you. And they can see you, they might choose you. And if they do, you die. For twenty four hours, you're dead. For a while. People's souls are being uploaded to the internet. And some people get stuck. Their minds, their souls, in the wifi. Like echoes, like ghosts. Sometimes you can hear their screams on the radio, on the telly, on the net. This is real. This is not a hoax.
MAN 2 [on screen]: I don't know where I am.
NABILE: Or a joke.

I'm so fucking glad he's wearing that classy fucking outfit again. I hated that fucking rock Doctor phase and I hope it's gone for good.

Purple velvet is a notable upgrade from the original suit.

Also glad Clara was killed by her own arrogance. Capaldi's performance was great but I've hated Clara for two or three seasons now and I thought her death was hilarious.

Next week's episode looks fucking grand. I hope we get the promise of those eyebrows for a least the last few episodes.

>>63020829

I literally don't think they could make someone "more special" then Clara.

Thanks to Moffat's shitty showrunning, she is literally the reason the Doctor exists in the form we know and, as a result, why time and the universe exists in its current state.

I just...unless the next companion was his fucking mother, I simply don't think it'd be possible.

Personally, I'm hoping Missy takes him up on his offer from The End of Time and travels with him as his mad companion whom he has to reel in from causing world-ending destruction and/or taking part in cannibalism on the regular.

It's become trendy but people have been complaining about Moffat's Who for a long time. RTD made the series popular and it's become a cultural thing so it'd be "uncool" not to like DW now.

Besides, the numbers, as I understand it, have been dropping consistently throughout the season.
>>
Why is it every female character Moffat writes is a super Mary Sue? Say what you will about RTD, at least he didn't make River Song.
>>
>>63020995

I think the consensus is that Moffat is still doing more or less okay? He had a bit of a dip there for S7 but people seem to like S8 and S9 just fine

>Personally, I'm hoping Missy takes him up on his offer from The End of Time and travels with him as his mad companion whom he has to reel in from causing world-ending destruction and/or taking part in cannibalism on the regular.
I've wanted Moffat gone for years but I'd rather another 5 year sentence under the fat Scottish cunt than garbage like this. Thanks for reminding me that the show could actually be worse.
>>
>>63020992

>>
>>63021166
So your argument is that Steven Moffat should be fired because nobody who is watching the show is watching it because they like it ergo the BBC should ignore the concrete numbers (Factoring in the transition from on air viewing to online viewing) and stable audience appreciation index because all of it is fake.

You need to look up what a Mary Sue is.
>>
>>63021012
even capaldi likes rose
>>
>>63021234

So then I'd say Rose really isn't a Mary Sue. Her involvement has always just been about her importance to The Doctor and vice versa. She's made some cameos since but certainly doesn't have the same issues Donna and Clara did with being overly important to the universe as a whole.

I fucking love Donna and Papa Noble, I'm just saying, they did a lot of "oh my God, such fate" with she and her family.

>>
>>63021373
RTD started the trend but he didn't slavishly follow it. Martha wasn't a Mary Sue, every Moffat companion is.
>>
>>63021389
That's why I'm saying she's not a mary sue. I'm highlighting that she doesn't have flaws that only serve to make her more endearing, isn't extremely competent, and isn't well liked by everyone

Let's forget the Mary Sue label. Why can't Moffat write a female character that isn't a creature of near perfection that's immeasurably important? I really want the next companion to be someone that's fairly down to Earth and taken aback by traveling the galaxy. I don't want another wise cracking genius that frequently saves the Doctor.
>>
>>63021350
Kay but like, I don't think mary sue-ness is a bad thing in and of itself? The Doctor is proof of that.
Like, why not have every character on your show be epic and awesome, if you can still give them interesting arcs and conflicts?

Amazon doesn't sell Big Finish really, it sells some CDs secondhand but nothing in advance. I really wish BF's website had some way of gifting stuff but it's always been behind the times.

You can probably posts your lists anytime later tomorrow and they'll be a copypasta of them all, just make sure yours gets on it. I'll buy the first gift later tomorrow evening/early night.

Engines of War was pretty much perfect for that kind of thing because it was like 10-15 bucks, pretty new and actually good, one of the few Who books that people who don't read Who books would read.

Maybe for something everyone would like either the first volume of the new 10th, 11th or 12th doctor comics? Those are pretty new and relatively cheap but also good (10th is the best imo, then 12th then 11th, but knowing /who/ i'd bet most people would ask for the 12th doctor one)

The original Moment was a modified de-mat gun /headcanon /The Forgotten

I'm sure I'm not alone in having a vague headcanon like this:

TIMELINE 1

8 (McGann) uses the Moment (a modified de-mat gun) to destroy all the Time Lords and Daleks. He regenerates. He stumbles around somewhere as 9 (Eccleston) still in his Victorian-ish clothes (like that BBC short story thing mentioned).

Series 1 happens. At the end Bad Wolf Rose happens. Now, either right away, or after "peeking ahead" to 10 and 11s timelines (thus having Series 2-7 exist with 8 having used the Moment) she goes back in time and messes things around, somehow causing the War Doctor, becoming the Moment.

Optional TIMELINE 1.5

8 regenerates into War, War uses the Moment (not as Bad Wolf) to end Time War, regenerates, Series 1 happens, etc.

TIMELINE 2

Bad Wolf Rose goes back in time, fiddles about, is the Moment, engineers the 50th, Time War ending is undone.

It's a fun way to keep everything "canon" (8 ending the Time War makes some of his Big Finish arcs more satisfying IMO) but obviously the 50th happened.
>>
>>63021962
That's scary as fuck
>>
>>63022162

Was Engines of War any good? I have a mate with a copy who I might lend it off, but I'm semi-ambivalent cause I don't love the whole War Doctor idea (Hurt is brilliant but I'm just not a big fan of the War Doctor, though I expect I'll love the audios).

Do the comics all have "new" companions, or do some have Clara or Amy or whatnot?
>>
>>63022301
Exactly what I was trying to remember! Cheers.

Yeah I like having a headcanon that keeps all that stuff integrated, but "rewritten". Series 1-7 just feel weaker to me, especially Eccleston's performance, if the Time War literally never actually ended in him killing em all.

I think it's much more satisfying for him to have originally done it (the 8 doing it instead of War is just a personal luxury because I feel it makes his Big Finish arcs stronger and that War isn't the best idea in the world) in terms of character.

Rose/Bad Wolf "fixing" the whole Time War might be a lil much for some, especially those who weren't fans of her character (it's series 1 Rose though so I imagine most at least think she's alright then), but Bad Wolf changing the past works well IMO.
>>
>>63022311
Engines of War was pretty good, especially with the Dalek stuff and Cinder imo. The War Doctor was able to stay nicely mysterious throughout most of it. It read really quickly and had a good amount of action although War himself didn't do much through it, but it's supposed to be towards the end of his life I believe.

The 8th, 10th, and 11th have new companions. The 12th has Clara and the 9th miniseries (which will take forever to actually wrap up) has Jack and Rose.
>>
I don't care that the new Master was a woman... I actually was highly expecting to watch the finale of season 8 and oh boy... it was cringe worthy as fuck.

>>63022427
>Don't go sticking the trinkets in her vagina and posting them on /who/. They aren't always very receptive. lulz

Is that a reference to something that actually happened here because I swear I vaguely remember something like that

>>63022403
I hope the audios don't always stay at the end of his life, the beginning sounds more interesting to me because it's presumably when he was least Doctor-ish. When he was actually using guns and being violent, not being the Doctor etc. Awful stuff but Hurt would perform the rage really well. Hurt's great for the later-life conflict when War starts wanting to be a Doctor again, but I feel like never doing much early-life War stuff is a mistake

I hadn't thought of that, but you're totally right. It's the safest, most sensible bet for a first War Doctor story. Hurt seemed really pleased with the script so maybe/hopefully we'll get a second set of stories after OnlyTheMonstrous/InfernalDevices/3/4, that focus on his earlier life. How will they get around Hurt's voice obviously sounding old? No idea but I'm sure BF are creative enough to do it.

I think it just suited the Curator being like 4, jittery and full of energy, but real talk, T. Baker was super nervous that day and was even considering not doing it until Matt Smith walked in and overwhelmed him with love and comfort. You can read about it on his site, kind of a blog thing
>>
So just watched the latest episode, have to admit it's bretty good.

Clara better be dead for realz though, 2 clara death fake-outs would be absurd... especially given how well handled they did this death with all the goodbye stuff.

Also I'm assuming we've all assumed the 'they' is the Time Lords, right? And the Doctor is being transported to Gallifrey?
>>

>Also I'm assuming we've all assumed the 'they' is the Time Lords, right?

Yeah, the BBC flat out spoiled it with snyoposis for the next 2 eps.

>And the Doctor is being transported to Gallifrey?

Actually likely not. It's very unclear. We go "Under Gallifrey" in ep12. Ep11, who knows?

>Clara better be dead for realz though

I'm sure she is mate, Moff has his flaws but he's learned his lesson by now. You do see Jenna in the finale, but presumably as an echo, because the waitress ep12 Jenna/Clara doesnt recognise 12.

>have to admit it's bretty good.

Yeah even without the last 5min it was a pretty good ep.

>>

Not every half-decent supporting character needs to become a companion, that's just some fans' obsession.
Osgood is part of the new UNIT team, which means that she will pretty much be a companion in future UNIT stories for a few years, like she was in Invasion/Inversion. Ashildr is fine as a supporting character too since, being immortal, she can pop up at any point in the timeline. You don't need to make her a companion to put her in all the stories you want.
As for the characters from Mummy on the Orient Express and Last Christmas, I won't lie, I forgot almost everything about them within one week of watching the episodes.

Speaking of companions(technically), You know what really bothers me? The TARDIS, despite being, you know, the TARDIS, very rarely gets any character focus. The old girl's had like, what, three episodes ever that are actually about her?

>"I care. .... God help me, I actually care!" If this didn't get to you at least a little, you may want to consult a counselor.

Umm a fictional character with fictional dialogue. Not everybody can related that easy. To say that they would need to consult a counselor because they didn't feel you may need to accept that not everybody can do that. And it will need an actor 100 times better to deliver the line before it would even come close to making me feel

The Valeyard is pretty much confirmed m8.
What is left to see is whether Heaven Sent will be as GOAT as it appears.

So when Moffat expressed his trepidation over massively altering established lore, it was the Valeyard.

Seems to me that if they work it in well with Trial of a Time Lord, it could be sublime.
