They released partly despecialised editions on DVD a while back. They claim to be the original theatrical release but i think they are actually like the original Betamax release (seriously). They are pretty good any way, its what i choose to watch over the blu-rays

3 Things:

1. Fox owns the distribution rights for A New Hope basically forever, the rights for the other 5 movies will go back to Lucasfilm/Disney in 2020.

2. Lucasfilm claimed in a press release that the original negatives of the OT were permanently altered and they are now the same as the 1997 Special Edition, although a lot of people in the industry don't believe this and say it was just a diversion tactic by Lucas to make people shut up about wanting the Original Theatrical Versions released.

3. Most normies simply don't care enough about the original versions to justify the costly remastering and restoring process that's needed to re-release them in HD.

I thought the rumor was that Lucas actually modified the originals so that no one could ever undo his CGI additions.

Why do you even need Blu Rays? Weren't these things on laserdiscs? Maybe the quality isn't perfect, but it wasn't great either when it was playing in cinemas in the 70/80s. It actually adds to the charm. Like vinyl or something.

The versions you're talking about are the 1993 Laserdisc versions of the trilogy which were released on a Bonus DVD. They are the originals but they are in bad quality (VHS tier) and they're Pan&Scanned to a 4:3 aspect ratio which really sucks.
