I wouldn't say best actor ever but certainly an accomplished character actor. He reminds me of John Cazale, memorable and often stand out but rarely a lead. Obviously he has lived longer therefore worked longer. Maybe a better comparison and more contemporary actor would be Phillip Seymour Hoffman who also has a large body of work. All great character actors, but none I would define as the best actor ever. Personally I think De Niro, even despite the last decade or so.

Probably the best character actor in Hollywood he can fit in just about any role in any setting. The guy is top fucking notch and a seemingly cool dude.
I guess he used to be a fireman and during 9/11 he went to his old fire house and volunteered his time to help out.
He's really only at his best when he's chewing scenery. He's great in Fargo and Res Dogs when he's going over the top, but a lot of the work he did in The Sopranos when he was trying to underplay the character was cringe-worthy.
