I'm not disagreeing with you but I think that meme exists because most capeshit movies in the past 20 almost always spend at least the entire first act with an origin story and it tends to bore people who already know the character.
Superman was a great example of a movie that was aware that most people were already familiar with the titular character and for those who weren't, made great use of the opening montage to cover a lot of ground.
