The Coens had a great take on 60's suburban MN, with A Serious Man, and I think that setting would be nice to revisit, especially since the first two seasons of Fargo have had more rural MN settings.

Agreed. The next season needs weird dream sequences, confusing (arguably pointless) symbolism, surreal action, long periods without dialogue, and all the other elements of the more arty Coen films.
They set up what this season revolve around pretty well, mentioning that sioux falls massacre. I haven't noticed anything so far this season where they mention some big thing from the past. There are still enough episodes to do that, but I think season 3 will take place after the events of this season

Here is a list of TV channels and their avaliabilty in US homes. FX is in slighty more homes than AMC is. Of course, TWD is the most popular show on all of TV (which is amazing considering it is on a cable channel) but Fargo is really watched by nobody. The only reason why FX is going it a 3rd season is because of critical acclaim rather than any interest by the viewing public.
