Spiritual sequel of Master and Commander will soon arrive in theaters. I'm hyped as fucked. Modern naval cinema is so rare. It will be just the second movie if we don't count POTC.

Michiel de Ruyter was also quite good even if it had some typical characteristics of a big budget epic movie made in a country new to this kind of things trying to imitate Hollywood. But still worth checking out. I was surprised how many battle scenes we got.

Shit.
>>
This has been delayed for a whole year, it'll suck.

And the record of ocean films failing is kinda horrible. Chances this one won't fail is remote as fuck.

That's a big fish

>That weird pose to make himself look skinny
His fucking neck muscles are as wide as his torso.
he still looks way too fit to be some random seaman.
I'm sure it will look good in the movie though, as long as he isn't pulling his shoulders back like that.

Went through a Moby Dick phase this past summer. Also read book based on OP pic. That movie should be pretty good, as the book was very fascinating.

By the way, pic related is a fantastic watch, albeit a tad aged. Download asap.
>>
>>62972997
Let me guess. You played metal gear solid 5.
>>
>>62973048
Nope. I don't know anything about that game (or any of the newer consoles for that matter). I just read Moby Dick the first time ever and got really into it all.

And I like old movies.
>>
>>62973122
Cool.
>>
>March 2015

wat?
>>
>>62973166
Unfortunately. But it wasn't anything serious. Just Warner Bros deciding that December is more profitable. So it's all good.

the average seaman in the british navy at that time at 4,000 calories a day and was pulling ropes and shit all day. they were at least that muscular
>>
>>62974443
>Average seaman eating 4000cal
lel, nah. those niggers were frequently malnourished as fuck.
>>
>>62974551
This along with scurvy and sexual diseases they got from natives and shore whores.
>>
baka
>>
>>62974616
Scurvy comes from malnutrition.
>>
>There will never be a Blas De Lezo movie
>We will never have a Moby Dick film with Viggo Mortensen as Ahab

Feels bad m8
>>
>>62974551
the scurvy was just from not eating citrus. they ate a lot of calories, though
>>
>>62972997

watch All is Lost by J.C. Chandor, the movie is about an hour and a half of pure cinematography gold mixed with clever boating tactics in the same way of Master
>>
>>62974948
Yeah... from not getting enough vitamin c. That's called malnutrition.
>>
>>62972997
>decides to read ye olde Moby Dick
>hyped as fuck for the encounter with the legendary white whale
>spend 500 pages learning all about whaling, ships, spirituality and pretty much everything on earth except the white whale
>the final encounter is like one page

breddy good, would read again
>>
>>62971451
I'm so fucking hyped. That will be some really comfy christmas cinema.
>>
>>62975055
It was good. My favorite "encyclopedic" chapter was "Of the whiteness of the whale." All that talk about the meaning of the color white was very interesting and I was surprised to learn that almost all reviews mention this particular chapter as the most boring.
Anyway I still think the characters needed more shit to do. I'd like to read more about Ishmael's friendship with Queequeg.
>>
>>62975055
That's because only plebs think moby dick is about the whale.
>>
>>62971451

Those are some pretty cool actors. I mean, Cillian Murphy is always solid as fugg and Hemsworth can really carry those "righteous handsome guy" roles too.

nutrionary scientists at work over here
>>
>>62975251
Why did you even chime in? It's common knowledge that lack of vitamin c causes scurvy. Are you actually so dense that you believe this requires an even mildly scientific background?
>>
>>62972900
>he still looks way too fit to be some random seaman.
That's not supposed to be a random seaman, it's supposed to be a seaman who has been living on a boat in the middle of the ocean for a few months
>>
>>62975312
That is what random seaman meant at the time, champ.
>>
>>62975206
Ishmael falling slowly being replaced by an omniscient narrator is important to the novel. We already got to see them butfucking in the beginning anyways.
>>
>>62975055
This is why every adaptation ultimately fails. Its always only the first and last 50 pages at best.
>>
>>62975283
Too bad polar explorers didn't know about it. Now I know vitamines were discovered in 1912 but supposedly people in ancient times knew what to eat to prevent scurvy but we "forgot" this knowledge somehow.
>>
>>62975364
Boat, not ship.
>>
>>62975406
At least Ahab is usually done right. That's why I like the 50s version. Even if Starbuck turns into a moron in the end. Unless after Ahab's death the "whale fever" chose to attack him. And the whale looks good.
>>
Fuck yeah, I've been waiting for this for a long time.
>>
It's a pretty crazy story. They draw straws to decide who to eat. Shit gets real.

the only "irrational" fear I have that I just can't deal with, it doesn't stimulate me at all, as it just too fucking scary for me to appreciate anything about it. I still vividly remember playing Mario Sunshine on gamecube, fighting this huge underwater boss with a pillow on my lap, constantly pausing and hiding my face

Stay delusional, britbong.

Agreed. Great movie for Dutch standards. I liked how accurate the naval combat was in comparison to other movies. They should have taken it easy with the slowmotion though and some of the characters felt kind of flip floppy, especially the king.
