I got into 24 very casually. Only watched Season 5 (Wich, by the way, I absolutely loved) and the Last Season, the London One.
I kinda want to do it right and watch all the seasons, from the very beginning, but I'm afraid of the whole "Early Instalment Weirdness". The fact that the things I loved from it don't start to appear until later seasons.

In terms of the story, season 1 is more like a spy thriller. Jack himself is more like a regular guy in a difficult situation.
S1 and S2 have some retarded subplots, but the main plots are good enough to make up for it.

I dunno, Jack felt completely useless at the beginning, like the show became self-conscious of itself because it really had a weird turn for being 'more' realistic.
I liked the beginning, that Jack just so happened to be in the neighborhood and got roped up in this huge international mess by complete accident.Reminds me of Die Hard 4, which I love.
Then, by the midpoint, Jack just goes on a complete fucking rampage to the point where the US and Russia are sweating their ass off trying to stop him. It's like watching this unstopable killing machine turn evil and no one being able to stop him.
And the ending was pretty good, with his final pleading secret message with the president to see it his way.
It started off bland but got really good.
S5-7-8 were probably my favorites. The early 24 isn't really that interesting to me.
