1. The songs are catchy and funny, Lonely Island sort of shit. They'd be excruciating if they were awful, but they aren't.
2. Rachel Bloom is funny, and the show has jokes and is funny. It's also massively fucked up.
3. The CW isn't the show show it was years ago, pretty much all their shows are good now. Probably the most consistently good network on TV.

The pilot was great, and the first season was good, but it's Murphy show so the show lost the plot very very quickly (I watched way too much Nip/Tuck before giving up too).

I think it's the juxtaposition of the really dark themes with crude humor combined with lightness and positivity. It really resonates with me and makes me laugh. I find the jokes consistently land and it nails the tone, pacing and warped world-view.
Couple that with the show telling some really unique stories in unexpected ways, strong story construction, and some genuinely weird, fucked up characters without shying away from it. It's just very different.
Many of the comedies I've loved (30 Rock, Community, Simpsons, Futurama, Rick & Morty, South Park, Red Dwarf etc), at their best, dealt with similar themes.
