You want to call a multi-faceted and nuanced story showing the various reactions to extraterrestrial contact amidst a breaking faimly and the breakthrough idea of nonviolent aliens fucking boring? The way the story unfolds is immaculate because you don't know WHAT is going on and you don't know WHAT the aliens want, and the finale is one of the greatest moments in cinematic history. THIS is boring to you?? If you're even human, this film oughtta be no less than riveting.

It's better than ET and War Of The Worlds, but it's not that great of a movie.

And what makes it not that great? The characters are FLAWLESS, the pacing is FLAWLESS, the score is ICONIC, the scenes are ICONIC. The story isn't simplified but instead applies from Jaws the multiple layers and subtleties in character interactions. The cinematography and structure of the film is FLAWLESS as well. What is bad? I WANT to know why people hate this film and Spielberg. That's what I want to fucking know. It's not Spielberg's fault most modern blockbusters are shit just because he pioneered them.
