It was a blessing in disguise, an American remake of Battle Royale would almost certainly have been shit just like practically every other American remake of a foreign film
>>
Fuck off to plebbit

nip shit tbph
>>
>>62934800
But you do have a nice thing. It's called Battle Royale, directed by Kinji Fukasaku.

>>Tarintino wanted to direct the remake
Fair enough then, I retract my previous statement, it actually might have been pretty good
>>
Movie was pretty good, but I didn't like how some of the more interesting aspects of the novel were excised. I don't miss the hamfisted political commentary, but Shinji, Kazuo, Hiroki, and Shogo are a lot more two dimensional than they are in the book. Also they let Beat Takeshi's fame seep into the character, dude gets way too much screentime and he's half asleep for most of it.

An American battle royale wouldn't really work anyway. The story pretty much HAS to be japanese.
>>
Implying that BATTLE ROYALE (1999) isn't a blatant rip-off of THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME (1932).
>>
Hunger Games is a good quadrilogy though
>>
>>62934924
I thought Takeshi was good in it. I just thought it was stupid that he was supposedly some normal high school teacher then started throwing knives and shit like a Yakuza.

but from 2nd one it starts picking up
3 and 4 are grim as fuck, shit is not for kids.

>>3 and 4 are grim as fuck, shit is not for kids.
Yes, they are. I know you've been misled by years of children's entertainment where nobody even gets a minor injury, but Hunger Games is completely for little baby children.

I bet you're too dumb to realise that popular media has been completely infantilized over the past decade or so. The edgiest a show can get is fucking Game of Thrones, at best a series based on some terrible novels you might read in a waiting room if you have nothing better to do.

Excessive choice of pursuits for the masses means that people no longer go to the movies for anything other than a bland 2 hours of stock action and basic plot all wrapped up in a "save the cat"-style progression where nothing of any merit is ever learned.
>>
>Battle Royale rips off every gladiator story
>but it's kids this time

Fuck off. Actually watch BR. They're nothing alike. I'm not defending the story with Hunger Games, I dislike it, but the premise is old.
>>
Its fun but holy shit all these crushes and retards

It's a fucking YA adult novel that none of you gave a shit about until they made it into a movie.

This is a thing?
>>
>>62938899
He just made a simple mistake I bet, just like everyone here is forgetting that Lord of the Flies did it first and better than any of them.
Battle Royale was just japanese torture porn. The SAW series is the U.S similar counterpart. They are all the same, simple thrillers based on 'game' concepts to make it seem like you're disconnected from the violence.
>>
Why do autists obsess over this particular weeb movie so much
>>
>>62934800
This film is an absolute mess. I have no idea why people praise it the way they do.
>>
And Battle Royale wasn't even the first with this, there was some scandinavian movie from the 70's that did it way before the nip hacks

This is edgelords first movie. It's basically 90 minutes of kids killing each other on the backdrop of an utterly nonsensical plot.

Hunger Games, for its flaws, minimises the graphic violence and manages to make the deaths that are seen generally more significant (e.g. Roo's).

also they at least attempt an (albeit slightly hammy) explanation for *why* the games exist. In BR I believe it was just "kids go bad so they get killed in extremely contrived fighting scenarios lel".

LEL not saying the movie is deep or anything but you clearly didn't get it. You are literally too stupid for Kitano.
>>
>>62940631

Even if there were hidden depths, nobody came away from the film appreciating that. It's enjoyed predominantly by 17 year-olds who self-insert themselves because "if this was my school I'd totally survive and kill all those asshole bullies and rape the hot chicks".
>>
>>62940848
Sounds like a good deal of projection there.

Although I agree it's not a very good movie.

I think he's right in that while the story (as far as I understand it) is based on the huge generational gap and pressure in Japan today which has youths ferociously competing for the benefit of their elders the movie didn't represent it well past the metaphor and what's left is just brainless le battlin highschool
