Its better than Far from Heaven,mainly because its not just a pastiche of sirkian melodrama, but an affecting and immersive story on its own, separate from the period/his influences.
Probably on par with Safe, which i think is his best. But very very different, as you might imagine.

whoa that's really high praise. although Far From Heaven is one of my favourite movies so perhaps our taste differs. Safe is fantastic too though. I also really love I'm Not There, it just doesn't seem like he'll make any movie now that won't be a masterpiece.

I loved Rooney's brief moment in The Social Network but I haven't really seen her in anything else. One moment of her crying in the trailer was inexplicably moving though, I'm excited for her performance.
I read the book a few months ago and I already know that the material is just going to be perfect for Todd Haynes. Everything about it looks so beautiful and moving.

Mildred Pierce is really, really amazing. I did it in one sitting after reading the novel the day before. I think it's one of the best adaptations of a book that I've ever seen. You might want to check the book first if you like reading, it's pretty great too.
