Never seen it or any others in the series. Care to talk about why it was shit?

Pls no /sjw/ rant the threads are flooded with that shit
>>
Only seen the first movie and felt like there were shit missing from the book, like the main character's personality.

Don't know what the fuck the sequels are about.

Read the very last entry in the Trivia section for this movie on IMDb.
My sides have left the building.

The Pacing is horrendous, it should never have been separated into two movies. It's like 2.5 hours long and there really isn't enough happening to justify that length.

Jennifer Lawrence over-acts like Anne Hathaway every time she's supposed to be upset or pulling her "shocked" face. I think she's actually the weakest part of the movie, much better performances from the supporting cast.

Also the general shittiness of the story and the obvious "twist" at the end. Worse still one of the most important moments of the movie storming the president's mansion and capturing him happens off screen

That sounds fucking atrocious. Every time I saw a clip of Lawrence from those movies she always looked horribly miscast. In fact besides winter's bone I don't think I've liked her in any thing.

And why DO they split the source material for the last book. I think every major young adult franchise has done it. What the fuck? Are these things making that much money????

coin = hilary clinton

emperor snow = trump

mockingjay = bernie sanders

rebels = isis

now the movie makes sense
>>
>Hunger Games
Have to admit, I was a little butthurt when it came out because I liked Battle Royale and this got all the attention, but when you get down to it the movie's a decent (if not forgettable) adventure story for teenage girls. The shaky cam was obnoxious, and the effects were shit-tier, but at least the supporting cast was pretty good (Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, etc.)

>Catching Fire
Surprisingly good. It had the same nitpicky problems as the first movie, but it was pretty entertaining, so I give it a pass.

>Mockingjay 1
Lazy filler. It's clear the movie would have worked better as a single piece, but was split in half for money. The "drama" is laughable, and the paper-thin characters are really annoying at this point. It was fine when you're watching them kill each other for a game, especially when you don't have to point out how weak characters are because they'll just die in the next scene, but when the entire movie is watching these characters in a safe environment, the fanfic style of writing is too apparent.

>Mockingjay 2
At least it's better than the Part 1. It still has all the problems as the last movie, but at least there's some neat setpieces this time around. The sewer monsters were fun, and the ending felt reasonably satisfying. When it's said and done, I think Katniss is an awful character, and if anything, she's gotten worse over the course of the series. I'm glad the franchise is over.
>>
>>62924914
the only thing that redeems catnis is that she was truly just a person plucked from the masses and "never asked for this."

she only really becomes a badass when she kills clinton
>>
>>62924520
>it just is
>>
>>62924840
I thought she was alright in America hustle.

Because she was a total bitch, dolled up and doing no work in it, she didn't have to act
>>
Also finnick died for no reason, there was a whole squad chilling that could have covered him while he was climbing up out of the sewer, I thought it might have been because they had no ammo but they were shooting up large as soon as he dies. Katniss then throws in the pod detector device and blows it up. Then conveniently from that moment on they never need to worry about the traps anymore (WHICH ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PLACED EVERY 10 STEPS).

And I don't know why she'd even assume Snow intended to blow up all the kids, it was very clearly Coin's doing, along with the heavy handed foreshadowing of her being annoyed at Hemsworth for wanting to blow shit up earlier in the movie.

Also killing Prim off screen was lazy
>>
>>62924663
Since they also decided to go down a "darker" direction, I was very surprised whenwe found her living a normal life in her hometown with kids on a green meadow, as if she wouldn't be hunted for the rest of her life for doing what she did
>>
Did they keep that one guys death whose face melts off when he steps into a light?
>>
>>62925113
Lol I think you're reading a little too much into that
>>
>>62924520
as someone who read the books and was thoroughly disappointed with the last one way before the films let me tell you why

it decides to get extremely anti-war and depressing out of nowhere and kill off practically every single major character by the end of it to make you question "was the fight even worth it?", but at the end of the day they still win the fight and you still get the cheesy "and Peeta and Katniss married and had babies and eventually got over the fact that everyone they were ever freinds with is dead (including her sister)"

anti-war is not a bad angle but the way it was done in Mockingjay felt very cheap, manipulative and unearned and again it felt very tonally out of place to the previous two books which merely hinted at shit getting dark and heavy near the end
>>
>>62925113
>Katniss then throws in the pod detector device and blows it up.
they kept talking about that damn thing so much that I was very suprised that there was no consequence after she blew it up, like what was the point?
I came out of the theater pleasantly surprised since I hated the last movie, but the more I think about it the more it feels lacking. I did like that they didn't go down the obvious route of having her kill Snow and then one of her boyfriends dying so she didn't have to choose, the sudden turn of the female president wanting to create a new hunger games was also stupid and twirling moustachy as fuck.
>>
>>62925250
In war people bomb trapped children and their medics.

WAR IS BAD EVERYONE
>>
>>62925171
Hunted by what? Katniss did nothing. Nothing.
There wasn't a single time where her morality or sanity could be questioned.
Was a whiny bitch at the start, remained such by the end.
>>
And the fact that they kept Peta around after he already killed someone and they couldn't trust him at all was fucking stupid and an unnecessary danger to everyone else. He should have been killed.

>>62925276
I thought it was all too convenient having Gale want to bomb kids to kill the love triangle. They should have killed one of them off and kept Finnick
>>
>>62925329
she killed the female president in front of everyone
>>
>>62923879
>mockingjay
>satisfying conclusion

Pick one, and only one.

It had the most cop-out ending ever, and Collins got criticized at the time for it.
>>
I saw it on Thursday. I liked it well enough although I think it was a bit too grim. The previous films certainly weren't bright and cheery by any stretch of the imagination but they all felt perfectly appropriate for middle schoolers. This one felt out of place somewhat.

I feel like removing Katniss's suicide attempt and Peeta's saving her from said attempt was shitty though. Oh and they went really lazy on the ending. They could have at least shown how things looked now all those years later instead of just having Katniss talk to herself in an empty meadow.

It was alright though. I still think the second movie, "Catching Fire" was the best, and fully did the book justice.

>>62925376
She gave up her desire to vengefully kill Snow in favor of killing Coin because she realized Coin just used everyone as a means to her own ends and she was just going to be Snow all over again.
>>
>>62925250
wait so they kept the sister dying? and in the same way?
i thought they might cut it out

yes, but that president was the leader of the revolution pretty much, surely she would have loyal followers who wouldn't just leave Katniss alone.

Something a bit more intelligent, or realistic even.

She settles for Peeta, which was odd. Gale's character implies certain fascistic tendencies will return, which is something she could have developed more. Coin's methods hinted at that too. Collins was developing a half-decent critique of failed revolutions against dictatorial states, and then they just throw it away for a half-hearted ending.

Reminds me a lot of the movie version of The Handmaid's Tale, where they made the ending into a similar "everything's settled even though it isn't" kind of ending.
>>
>>62925568
why is it off screen... doesn't katniss see it happen in the books? fucking hell, this is why there shouldn't be adaptions of books if hollywood isn't willing to go past Pg-13

Did you forgot how in the first movie she just climbed a tree and stood there for ONE DAY while the people who trained their whole lives to kill and wanted her dead just watched?
They could take some distance to shoot some arrows, cut the tree or burn it. But they really decided to sleep under the tree.
>>

>Collins was developing a half-decent critique of failed revolutions against dictatorial states, and then they just throw it away for a half-hearted ending.

Yeah, that's what pissed me off about the last book. I thought that was the direction it was headed, and then for some reason when she was writing Mockingjay I guess she decided she just couldn't bear Katniss not being a hero in the end who gets to have her cake and eat it too.
>>
>>62925677
There's a bombing of children, Katniss is running around all in shock, she sees Prim going to help, everything is all spinning and I think she passes out or something, wakes up in a hospital bed "EVERYTHING IS OVER NOW :D" with the obvious elephant in the room of what happened to Prim
>>
>>62925075
I thought she was too young for the part but she wasn't bad necessarily

"Catching Fire" is far and away the best adaptation in this series. One of the only times I liked a film better than the book.
>>
>>62925716
>Yeah, that's what pissed me off about the last book.
Good to know I'm not alone, then. I had to take a couple of days to get my head around the fact that I'd read a decent book trilogy and yet it ended on such a poor note.
>>
>>62925677
It's not offscreen, it's just not detailed in any way. You see the bombs fall, and you see the explosion happening, and the explosion engulf her, but you don't see her scream or get blown apart or her dead body afterward or anything like that. You just see BOOM and she's gone.

Cinna's death was kind of like that too. You see him getting beat up, and dragged away but you don't actually see full confirmation that he died.
>>
>>62923879
The giant Asian baby at the end
>>
>>62925816
Agreed. I actually didn't like Catching Fire as well as The Hunger Games but I liked the movie way better.
>>
Probably the worst entry of the series, kept shifting between muh feels and action without letting there be any significant moments in either.

Also there are a shit ton of awkward scenes
>>
>>62927564
Is the one out in theaters the last movie?
>>
>>62925250
Sounds like a fairly cheap attempt to raise the tension and drama for the last movie without letting the source material adapt properly.

In your opinion, would the film work far better as one movie or was it only possible with the two?
