I can't get behind her as a character.
For one thing it's hard to take a child character seriously, even if she is immortal. It might work if the actor was good, but she goes from delivering a great performance to primary school play tier (and back and forth) in almost every scene.

GoT works because every character is dwarfed by events (aside from, ironically, the dwarf). So it means nobody is really meant to steal the scenes - the politics shapes them.
DW is light family entertainment and it runs off adrenaline, charisma and on screen magnetism. She just doesn't have that power in her acting yet. I think that she will one day. But right now she is better drifting in and out of events like in GoT, and is a bit miscast as a "major player" who shapes history as she is here.

They hit the ground running with Amy. Introducing her first as little girl that waited for The Doctor and became obsessed with him gave the characters an instant history and rapport, which was pretty clever and effective. There was a teaser for this last episode that completely spoiled it for me. It was randomly on BBC One as I happened to be walking past a real television set, and all the "GOODBYE!" bollocks made it clear Clara was going to die. So I watched the whole episode with that in mind, rather than it gradually being built up in the story.
I don't mind reading /who/ because it's the perfect mix of rumours, bullshit, misinformation, and fact, but I would much rather have watched this "blind". I always feel this way when some television show or film has a death or some kind of twist. Who wouldn't want to erase their memory and watch The Empire Strikes Back "for the first time"?

But a "taste of what's to come" is literally just watching out of order scenes and hearing lines from the episode that you're going to watch anyway. It's one thing to watch a trailer for something because you want to gauge whether to bother seeing it, but if you know you're going to watch something, why watch a trailer for it? All you're doing is spoiling the experience of seeing it fresh.
