Do you buy physical media anymore? Do you mostly just download or stream and buy what you can't? Do you only buy what you love?

If you do buy do you prefer to buy collection sets a la LotR and Harry Potter or those triple feature releases (ie. the bd that has 2001, A Clockwork Orange, and the Shining or the one with all 1980s and 90s Batman movies) or do you spend the extra cash to buy singles?

Is there any point to buying, your eyes, when streaming and downloads exist, physical media degrades and becomes obsolete quickly, discs go out of print and become expensive or unobtainable, studios push out rereleases every few years that always advertise themselves as "definitive" (Disney) and home video and theater technology is always improving (ie. the quick shift from full hd to 2k).

>Do you buy physical media anymore?

I actually have flashdrives for a certain director/actor I like, and have all of their movies on said drive

For instance you can buy a 32 gb flashdrive that will last 10 years for $7. I have every Clint Eastwood acted and directed film on there (except a few rares) in 720-1080p and its in a box with my other thumb drives

Just for posterity sake, it's not worth it to own 40-50 boxes of media that will degrade faster than a drive, and you have to lug around

I buy blu rays all the time still, I'm too lazy to get into private tracking and all that shit.

The only problem is whenever I'm in the mood to watch a movie I can never decide which one to watch (not to mention Netflix's movie selection is abysmal).
>>
>>62916068
Yes I would. But that's besides the point. Stealing apples isn't the same as downloading pirated media. And I really hope I don't have to explain the difference.
>>
I only buy movies that I really liked. The rest are seen in theaters or torrented
>>
I buy Blu rays because I want the absolute best fidelity for films whether my Internet is working or not. Plus sometimes I will pop one in a watch subtitled while streaming music and doing something else like working out.

For TV shows its a bit different. Fidelity is a high priority but not the top priority. Convenience and the ability to watch multiple episodes easily on demand is the top priority. That's why I buy from Amazon Digital if I do buy a season of a show.

That's what I did with Mr. Robot and it was worth every penny.
>>
If I have the money, which isn't likely because broke college student, then I'll buy the special edition set of something I really love. I enjoy all the bonus features: commentary tracks, bloopers, various BTS featurettes, etc. Otherwise I'll just torrent it. Sometimes I'll torrent something I already own because it's easier to do that than to rip it myself.
>>
>>62916348
If I ever saw you stealing a motherfucking apple I'd cut your goddamn hand off

You filthy lecherous thieving cunt

>that said
I still think pirating is acceptable because it's "copies" of virtual media that doesn't actually exist
>>
For movies/games/shows I really enjoy, I'll buy the physical media.

There's just something nice about owning physical.
>>
>>62916348

>implying I would continue a conversation on civililized, ethical behavior with a confessed degenerate.
>>
>>62915218
I don't. I download everything that I find interesting because I don't feel like spending money on stuff that isn't strictly necessary.
Mind you, I don't excuse myself for it. It's illegal to pirate movies under federal law and I don't steal physical stuff in real life. I just don't care about the negative impact piracy has on the economy, etc., because none of the repercussions have ever affected me directly, and it's unlikely that they ever will.
Would I buy modern video games? Sure, if they're on a new console I can't emulate. Movies? Music? Never.
>>
Only if its a movie I really like, or I see something worthwhile on the used DVD rack at the corner store (in Bruges for a buck fifty, why not).

Also, I've lost way more hard drives in my life than physical copies of anything. I mean I still have my parents old vinyl albums, and CD's I bought 20 years ago. I don't have a single piece of functioning electronics that is that old (except maybe the original gameboy I got for christmas as a kid).

But I'm a dinosaur that still has books.

No. Shit my parents think it's crazy people pay for 1s and 0s. These days I only pay for experiences like theatre, cinema, concerts shit that actually forces me to leave the house.

If not, those 1s and 0s are getting downloaded.

>>
I can't remember when I bought a movie last time. Probably Return of the King on DVD back in the early 00s
>>
>>62915218
I don't but that's because I don't have money. I love the idea of physical media and hate my life every time I download a movie. I quite literally started to watch fewer and fewer movies because it disgusts me so much the idea of pirating. Needing to turn on my whole fucking computer just for watching a movie or listenting to an album? Absolutely fucking cancer.

Not paying for the movie/book/album diminishes any sense of value and respect I can have for the work. Stolen shit or won for free means nothing to me. Unfortunately. I wish I could enjoy all those million of movies I can find for free online but I can't because I don't sacrifice anything for it, its like fucking prostitutes. It also mean a lot to me feeling the physical object in my hands before consuming it. Buying it, unwrapping the package, puting the disc in the player... on the computer all of this is lost and its like having sex without first date and foreplay.
>>
I buy my favorite things as a way to promote those things in the world.

So with that being said, any further conversation on the matter would be futile. Like throwing a rock in outer space and expecting it to hit something, but it won't because there is nothing there.

I bought a TV series on DVD that I couldn't find on public trackers or DDL, I'm going to rip it and use it digitally though.

I buy BluRays, but I'm very selective in what I pick. Still it easily grew into a 100+ disc collection.

I guess I get a warm fuzzy feeling from paying for stuff I enjoyed, and being 30+ I grew up in times when owning something physically (records, VHS, what have you) used to be cool.

I do agree digital is more convenient, but the quality of digital releases is still too shit to pay a cent for it. And buying a digital release only to download a BD-ISO to be able to watch it is just silly. So I may as well just buy it.
>>

I like to have physical media from stuff i enjoy, but far to many releases are shit; trailers and anti-piracy warnings in the beginning, best scenes/spoilers shown in the menu and some German DVDs here don't even have the original audio, but instead the dub version....

So most of the time I only buy from companies I know they care for their product and I am sure of getting a good disc.
>>
I buy the classics and favorites (which are a lot). Blu-ray.

I rent discs of recent movies that interest me.

I download if I couldn't go to the movie store by the weekend. But still, I download 3gbs of film (not 800mb yify). It can get slow; so it's not really like, you know, "instant gratification". Free is great though.

I like Blu-ray because it's the original format from the studios with the best video/audio data you can get right now. Even DVDs are a good value for me, specially the ones from the early-mid 2000s, when DVD mastering was in top form.
