Pilot is a very quick 40 minutes, 2nd episode kinda sucks as it tries to set up the show, get better after that. Show seems divisive but go for it if you like comedy. I've known the main character since 6th grade.
She was literally hated by everyone at the school, not because she was a bitch (she was extremely nice) but because she was a huge geek.
Everyone always made fun of her, talked shit about her behind her back, etc etc. And everyone always said she was really ugly, which I didn't get because I've always thought she was bretty cute.

honestly I think the popular girls were threatened by her... because she was definitely a qt from day 1. I like to think that she's the Anti-Dunham. She's not ashamed of her body but seems mostly aware that it isn't conventionally attractive so she usually dresses to emphasise her positives and exposes her uglier bits for comedic effect. She came up through improv, writing on shows like Robot Chicken and doing shit on YouTube while Dunham rose up through nepotism and was catapulted to fame.
Her character on the show, which she writes, like Dunham, is mental but competent at her job, no-one is really babying her, they just let her go off and fail at everything and she hasn't got the ego that the bitches on "Girls" have. Her characters are well rounded and actually do shit that doesn't revolve around the main character, they also seem able to enjoy life and the show has a sunny style in the way it presents life in West Covina compared to the drab overcast edgy world of Brooklyn in Girls.
Also this show is doomed and Girls is guaranteed until Dunham wants to end it. So they're opposites there as well.

They cancelled The Messengers last year, and Hart of Dixie/Star-Crossed/The Carrie Diaries two years ago. Its ratings stink, it's the lowest-rated show on the network.
The only upside is that the ratings trend is okay (it's stable), it's from the CBS side (CW is co-owned by WB/CBS and they're supposed to share programming, but CBS only has Reign, Jane the Virgin and the ending Beauty and the Beast on the network), and supposedly international sales are good.
The only hope is that the network ignores the ratings because they like it so much and that they think they can turn its ratings around.

They just cancelled Beauty and the Beast. Which had sewer level ratings but was kept on air because it was literally the only show that CBS made which was on the Network, everything else is Warner Brothers.
Crazy Ex-girlfriend is CBS production slightly more than it is a WB production(at least from what I gleaned off of Wikipedia), it was originally meant to be on Showtime but they hate happiness on that network so it got retooled from a half-hour show to an hour long musical for the CW. The only thing which can really save it is the fact that CBS needs some content on the network and this show is it.
Also if the music videos go viral, if the show gets hits on streaming sites or if it somehow gets nominated for awards.
Otherwise I have low hopes for this great show.

Well, Beauty and the Beast is ending on 70 episodes. I'm pretty sure its existence was a borderline scam - it was made on a ridiculously small budget in Canada, Beauty counted as full a Canadian production so they could sell it to a Canadian network as Canadian Content (Canadian networks legally have to air a certain amount of Canadian content to exist), plus Netflix pays The CW more money for shows that have more episodes so they also made money that way.
The best hope is that there's a Carrie Diaries situation where the network just likes the show and orders a second season despite the shitty ratings. I actually can see the logic there. A Globe nomination (or win) certainly wouldn't hurt either.
(And The CW's continued existence as a network is still up for question as all their deals end this year, but that's too messy to go into)
