Luke did I ever tell you about how Joel left the show out of frustration with Jim Mallons ideas and years later he returned out of the blue to ask fans to give him money to hire a hack and a camel to Star in a shell of a reboot with no original cast?

Best Brains Inc. produced and owned the show. It was owned by Jim Mallon (maybe Joel had a stake?) and after the show ended was mainly about selling DVDs through Rhino and later Shout Factory.
After RiffTrax and CT came out, Mallon/BBI made a few animated shorts with the bot characters. They were awful and failed miserably. This is probably what convinced Mallon to give up the rights once and for all.
At the same time as the Kickstarter was announced, Shout Factory acquired all rights to the show from BBI and BBI changed its name to Consolidated Puppets.
