In a way, they had become bad.
They had become quite arrogant about their abilities and towards threats facing the Republic. They doubted the Sith could overtake them, and they had become dismissive of any questioning of the council. It was their way, or the highway. They thought they knew everything, which was, of course, their undoing and which led to Sheev reclaiming the galaxy under sith control.
They also went against their code of giving justice and trial, trying to kill Sheev.

They were utterly detached from the Galaxy they meant to serve. They were obsessed with special powers that come through certain bloodlines and took children from their parents to indoctrinate them into a cult that teaches them to detach themselves from all emotion and loyalty to anything but them and their ideals. They claim to be guardians of peace and justice yet they permit such evils as slavery, mass murder, exploitation and poverty exist across the galaxy and do absolutely nothing about it unless it involves the Force or their ancient enemy. This wouldn't be a problem if they weren't the self proclaimed moral center of the galaxy, but they took on that role as not only that but peacekeepers, diplomats and guardians of justice.
The Jedi cannot comprehend why they would terrify people, they read minds, use their powers with abandons, manipulate and cheat and control people without any thought for anyone but their agenda because they have no empathy and no emotion. They have no loyalty to any person or any family outside of their Order. And despite their feet dragging, They're all too willing to become the generals in a galaxy wide war against separatists from the republic using an army of slaves cloned from the last survivor of a genocidal attack on one of the last pockets of a dying race that has been the enemies of the Republic for thousands of years. Then they killed the donor, and they did this without questioning where they came from or ever giving them a choice.
This is all the more reflected in Anakin. He joins the Jedi because he was won by qui-gon, he's not free, he was never freed, Qui-gon just gave him to the Jedi, they never went back for his mother, they never tried to improve the lives of where he came from. He was a slave to them.
When the Chancellor is exposed as a Sith Lord what do they do? They dont try to hold trial, they try to kill him and take control of the Republic The Jedi are Evil.

So from what I understand, there are many different types of force users in the Star Wars universe and some of them group into some sort of religion and have some weird rules. The ones that have been serving their time the longest get to make the big decisions. Not saying the Jedi are bad, but couldn't they achieve the same and more with a more logical set up?
