When training he scolded us on our monitor settings a proceeded to make everything adjusted hard red and told us to color correct as normal by look.

In theory, this change is good. The original Emperor in Empire Strikes Back doesn't match the actor in Return of the Jedi in either audio or visuals.
However, even with the updates and Ian Mcdiarmid playing the part, it STILL doesn't look like the convincing Return of the Jedi Emperor.
Now Ian Mcdiarmid is the horrible Revenge of the Sith with make-up that looks like it was done by the Prometheus team.

I will admit some changes to the OT made them slightly better or aesthetically pleasing. Adding windows to Cloud City gave a greater sense of scale and context, for instance. I don't mind the inclusion of McDiarmid in Empire, and I honestly prefer the John Williams music to Yub Nub in Jedi.
Of course, the Hayden Christensen inclusion is fucking woeful. I have an absolute pleb of a friend who didn't watch Star Wars until three years ago, and had no idea it was ever an old man as Anakin originally.

Lucas's inspiration for the space combat was WW2 movies like The Battle of Britain and Dambusters!, so his space fighters maneuver like Spitfires and Messerschmidts. In his rough cuts, before the effects work was finished, he actually used footage from those movies to fill the gaps.
