>What even happened?

Scientist dude, with help of eyebooger monsters, created "rescue team goes for trapped scientist/survivor in base with experiment monsters" scenario in order to record it, and splice it into an entertaining enough video to then broadcast it and get people to watch it.

He wanted people to watch it cause he put a signal in the video, the static/glitches, that would mutate their eyeboogers and turn people into the monsters we saw on the base.

Doctor found himself in the middle of it, and didn't make the true connection between the video being recorded, what was going on, and the guy's plan to spread the eyebooger stuff. So to him it made no sense.
>>
>>62816114
That's incredibly convoluted
>>
>>62816114

why did he turn to sand or whatever at the end?
>>
>>62816256
Cause the Morpheus machine sleep thing he'd made could also mutate eyeboogers. And he'd been through it enough, especially as it's creator, that he'd be affected too

>Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat says that the search for an actor to play the titular Time Lord’s new traveling companion is still in the “very, very early stages.”

>“There’s nothing really to report,” continues the showrunner. “We’ll make a noise when we’ve got something to say, don’t worry.” The need for a new companion has been prompted by the looming departure of Jenna Coleman from the show. For the past few years, Coleman has played teacher and temporal explorer Clara Oswald, but in September the actress revealed that the current, 12-episode run of shows would be her last. In fact, rumor has it that Coleman’s character will depart the show in the next episode, which is called “Face the Raven” and will be broadcast on BBC America, Nov. 21. Moffat, predictably, declined to comment on that possibility but did reveal that this Saturday’s show, the 10th of the season, would kick off a climactic trilogy of interconnected adventures for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor.

>“[The season] ends with three episodes, all of which cliffhanger into each other in a quite major way,” says the executive producer. “They’re very linked, but it won’t feel like a three-part story. In a traditional Doctor Who way, it builds to a huge climax in episode 12.”

I would love to finaly put Doctor Who aside, like so many other aspects of my past, but the structure of the show makes it impossible.

To quit when Jenna leaves? Miss based Capaldi. Quit when Capaldi regenerates? I'll be invested in the next companion.

Somewhere I need to rip this show like a band-aid, but when?
>>
>>62819334
>They’re very linked, but it won’t feel like a three-part story.
Oh, that makes sense now. It might have been from DWM, but I think Moffat was quoted as saying there was a lot of debate with the staff whether or not the last two episodes were a two-parter or not. He was on the side of individual episodes, and if Face the Raven is connected but not considered part of the main story it would make sense for them to all be single stories.

RTD's arcs like Bad Wolf and torchwood worked because they were an out of context phrase with some mystery behind what it really ment

Hybrid doesn't work because every instance of it has some explanation already and there is nothing to justify them being linked together. There's no mystery to why hybrids exist since it's readily explained, so there's no sense of build up to the finale

>The shortfall has arisen because as more people use BBC iPlayer, mobiles and other online catch-up, the proportion of households owning a television is falling, while a loophole allows viewers to watch catch-up TV without a licence.

This stupid fucking bollocks they keep talking is doing my head in. Always chatting shit so that people who pay for a TV license hate on those who don't. Meanwhile, they're paying Terry Wogan £60,000/year to do Children in Need. The real problem is that the BBC are a bunch of paedo cunts, and they're worried that their paedo empire will come crumbling down if the archaic and irrelevant TV license is abolished. I hope the Conservatives fucking end the BBC while they're in.

I was not this unhyped since third grade when Jimmy the schoolyard bully promised to shove a ruler up my arse after classes.
>>
>>62824635
The word "loophole" is a fucking joke, as well. It's not a loophole. "Loophole" suggests that paying for a TV license is something we should all be doing, and that those who don't are cheating the system. A TV license is not mandatory. Using iPlayer exclusively is not a "loophole". It's called fucking technology. Technology is changing the way we watch TV, but the BBC is still stuck in the 80s. They should have thought about what they were doing when they introduced the iPlayer service. They're shifting the blame onto the public, when they're the ones responsible.

Doesn't mean they'll put on hold for all eternity. It will probably mean more budget cuts so expect more cheap sets and actors and getting stuck either in present day, reusing historical sets from other show or claustophobic bases. So business as usual then.
>>
>>62824620
Isn't entertainment game and reality shows? Doctor Who is a family drama.
>>
>>62824732
It kinda is a loophole, people are watching content provided by the licence fee without paying the licence fee. Its not their fault, it is the BBCs for not foreseeing the number of people who would watch their content on iPlayer without ever purchasing a licence but at the same time it's the duty of the BBC to its licence payers to close the loophole so everyone is watching BBC content on the same terms.

Sleep No More should've been a weeping angel story. It could've been about space dust clogging and destroying the ships engines with people going missing/vanishing whenever they try and fix the problem. It would then be revealed that the dust was broken up weeping angels.

>even the Moffag stronghold of /who/ has recognised that the show is now devoid of charm, drama, intrigue, creativity and fun. It's like the Star Wars prequels or something.

How can the same man who made Blink, Silence in the Library and Series 5 make this awful awful shit?

Entirely new creative and production staff when? New ideas, new styles, new themes. Tried to watch the Zygon episode the other day. Essentially everything on screen was wrong. I hated everything. And I fucking loved Series 5.

I quite likeв series 8, I suspect Moffat can only produce one good series per Doctor. He basically drowns in his ideas to overuse and needs regular reset.

I wonder if series 10 would be similar to series 7.
>>
>>62826363
Wait for night /who/ they'll jump at your throat because you called Series 9 shit. I agree with you though. I already disliked series 8, was willing to give it another chance but Series 9 is disappointing like you said it's devoid of charm, fun, entertainment and excitement. If Series 10 doesn't rectify all of this, then I might drop the show and I've been watching it since 2009.

Clara has died every time she's gone into a pod this series. She died in the witch's familiar, the zygon invasion and sleep no more. The doctor has been using the hybrid eternal daleks to bring her back to life every time she dies. That's why it took 15 times for the zygons and humans to make peace. This is what's in his confession dial. She dies again in episode 10, but he brings her back to life. When the hybrid daleks are destroyed, she dies.
>>
Series 9 has no ambition other than "let's make this edgy shit for teens!". And it's a ratings flop. They're definitely going back to something lighter next year.
>>
Also, watch episode 10 until the very end (past the next time trailer)
12s appearance in the 'no sir all thirteen' scene is explained

I realised what I hate most about the show currently. There are no based side characters. Everyone is either a woman, child or black. Not to say those couldn't be based, but cmon. Everyone is the Moffat whoniverse is a meme spouting SJW cringelord.

>the brigadier
Based, interesting, entertaining, charming

> Brigadier's daughter
Lame, boring, embarrassing

Why is she a prominent part of the show again?
>>
>>62826534

In some ways, yes. But RTD's strength is characterisation and interactions; his characters felt real. This cannot be said of the prequels.

>>
>>62826771
It's a forgettable episode.
>>
>>62826788
What a bad opinion
>>
>>62826771
Darker tone in not necessary, but show does not work that well when aknowledging that it might be kinda crappy. Lots of RTD era suffered from it, and "I don't have to give a shit, I work for Doctor Who" seems to still pop up once in a while. Lighter stories could still work if they don't laugh at their own jokes.

What Doctor Who is definintely not suited for is epic action.
>>
>>62826542

Something over the top that it ends up being immature. Like some Torchwood episodes or something. I don't really see how any of that on that list is edgy. I mean how are The Master and Davros "edgy"?
>>
>>62826954
That's not what edgy is supposed to mean. Although since it turned into a derogatory term, maybe you are right.
>>
>>62826813

Not really

It's a 10 year old episode

Most people who watch DW now have forgotten about it.

Some fans weren't even born when Dalek was first broadcasted.
>>
>>62826954
Edgy means dark to the point it makes no sense just to be cool and please the teens. Missy killing people for no reason is edgy. Davros pulling an evil ruse after having killed Clara and Missy is edgy.
>>
>>62826980
I was a teen when I saw Doctor Who on TV and completely forgotten about it for years.

Years later I saw it mentioned somewhere and thought "Oh, I remember this was a show where a dude was yelling at a tin can. I should come back to watch it". This is a mark of true greatness.
>>
>>62826821
>>62826557
>why does Doctor Who do things I don't like?
>I know how Doctor Who works best, whereas RTD/Moffat obviously doesn't!

Jesus Christ stop. Doctor Who can do pretty much any kind of story it pleases, given how few fixed elements it has.
Saying "Personally I don't like the dark/campy/epic style" is a legitimate complaint. Saying "This style didn't work in that story/season/era because (reasons)" is also a legitimate complaint.
Saying "I know what is best for Doctor Who and it should never, ever do this kind of story because I don't like it" is just autism.
>>
>>62827048
I'm sorry I forgot to include a disclaimer and my opinion not marked as such triggered your autism.
>>
>>62827001
>Edgy means dark to the point it makes no sense just to be cool and please the teens.
Nothing you've said fits your definition.

>for no reason
The Master isn't a good guy. He's a psychopathic villain. He did shit like that in S3 where he gasses the senate and laughs. Is no one allowed to be killed in Doctor Who?

>Davros pulling an evil ruse after having killed Clara and Missy is edgy.
How are these relevant?
>>
>>62827048
Except I've never said I know what's best for the show. I was saying the edgy shit for teens approach doesn't work because it's too much, there's just no fun (fuck right off if you think "it's not fun" is not a legitimate complaint because it fucking is), it isn't entertaining enough and the stakes are ridiculously high so we know nothing bad will really happens except maybe Jac dying.

Also, sorry for triggering your fucking autism.
>>
>>62827138

Depressing as in "poor qualiy" or "grimdark everyone's gonna die"?

Yes. Though episode 11 happens and he can't go straight away. Once he gets back at the end of Heaven Sent, he goes and saves Gallifrey, hence the "Sorry I'm late" (to answer the phone call).

>>
>>62827628

>>
The Face the Raven post-credit scene sounds fucking GOAT
The Doctor gets a phonecall from a past Doctor
And the cliffhanger to episode 11
12 temporarily degenerates, creating 'sliders' of his 8th and 10th incarnations
>>
>>62827628
What were other pods?
Witch's Familiar = Dalek
Zygon Inversion = Zygon Pod
Sleep No More = Sleep Chamber
But Under the Lake and The Girl Who Died don't really fit with that theme.

Under the Lake had the doctor in a pod I guess
Girl Who Died doesn't really
