If you knew anything about the medium, or art in general, you'd realize that the successes/greatest works of the medium don't need to be your favorite. Definitely appreciated and talked about, but not your favorite. Your favorite movies are pieces that speak to YOU specifically and address or compel something out of you.

I don't really have problems with my friends being "plebs". I mean, most of them are, but I don't really mind.
One thing that one of my friends does that bothers me though is that she gets this impression that I hate every movie I watch, just because I end up pointing out positive things and negative things about every movie. Even if I liked a movie overall, saying anything negative about it immediately makes her think that I hated the movie.

People who think that new movies are worse than old movies are too stupid to come up with an opinion on a film until consensus has been established with the benefit of hindsight. Many of the movies we consider to be great now were critical and or commercial flops in their own time, and every one of them had armies of teenage plebs just like you dismissing them because they were new.
Also, there are always good movies that manage to be relatively popular. Obscurity doesn't inherently make something good, it just lets you feel superior for knowing about it.
