It's true. Almost all technical aspects of all of the Indian film industries is like 30-40 years behind Hollywood. And that's putting it lightly.
As for plot, most of films are forgettable and awful by Hollywood standards. Almost all films are known as "masala" films, meaning that they contain dramatic, comedic, romantic, and action elements in approximately equal amounts. As a result, this is the primary cause of a typical Indian film being terrible, imo. A lot of things are forced, and flow is nonexistent. It seems like Indians like these kinds of movies. And so, to play it safe all studios churn out crap like these endlessly. There's a not of experimentation and thinking outside the box.
