So, is this any good? I love Idris Elba, and the trailer looked like it would be a pretty good movie, but I can't bring myself to watch a movie about the shit going on in Africa.

I thought it was pretty fucking good. It deals with depressing, disturbing subject matter, but they don't really play it heavy like "12 Years a Slave," the tone is closer to something like "City of God." They don't shy away from the darkness or brutality of what's going on, but the movie is crazy and tense and exciting. And Idris is fucking great

Honestly, fantastic movie. Fantastic, moody soundtrack, great acting from the child actors, seriously.

That was one seriously fucking amazing scene
>>

It has some beautiful cinematography, apart from that I think it was an okay movie but hardly a must watch. As much as i like Elba, his phony-balloney accent was kind of a dealbreaker.

How was it like City of God other than taking place in the third world? City of God is flashy and stylish, BoNN is brutally realistic

HOW DOES YOUR COMMANDER LOOK?

I just watched it last night finally and I liked it quite a bit. Very dark and raw, but great acting, soundtrack, and cinematography. If you're just interested in Idris Elba you may be disappointed though because he's not the main character nor is he ultimately in it that much. He's there and he's important, but it does not focus on him at all. The main child actor is great though, more than holds his own with the heavy material he has to carry.

All the battle scenes were really well-done. I think my favorite was the first one, where Agu is walking alone in the woods, and suddenly there's stray bullets whipping through the leaves, and then out of nowhere there's a shootout happening all around him.

It was just cool how they accounted for stray bullets like that, was a pretty freaky scene, he didn't even know which way to go because he couldn't tell which direction they were coming from. Wasn't anything like an action movie where they spray bullets everywhere and somehow none of the good guys get hit. It always felt like any character could be killed at any moment, without buildup or warning

Both of them deal with brutal violence involving children, both of them show how children are exploited in third-world countries, I'd say both of them are brutal and realistic, and neither of them play like "Oscar bait." There's no heightened emotion or manipulation in the way they show any of this, it's just straightforward and honest.

And "Beasts" was pretty stylized, and stylish. The training montages, the a cappella rap soundtrack, the drug trip battle scene, come on.

They did a fantastic job with the gunfire and bullets in this. I would genuinely believe they were being shot at for real if someone told me because I've never seen it that realistic in a film before. The scene where he ducks down to pick something up and then out of nowhere a stray bullet impacts the wall right behind him, and nobody even flinches, was nuts.[/spoilers]
