Was this the first time internet memes were used by Hollywood?
>>
OLIVER?
>>
They used the dancing baby in Ally McBeal.
>>

>>
Snakes on a Plane probably did it first, but X3 was released before it.
>>
>>62773591
Why does he wear the mask?
No, seriously, what is the advantage of this mask compared to just a god damn ski mask?
>>
Saw a midnight premiere of X3. Packed theater. Entire place keked hard at this line. I doubt half the people were even familiar with the meme.
>>
Are animated TV shows "Hollywood"?

Futurama did " All your base are belong to us" in 2002.
>>
>>62773695
Yeah it was kind of weird they even acknowledged it.
The Internet was still pretty small and transitioning past the "wild west" days.
All normies used it for was AIM.
>>
>>62773610
This has to be the first, no?

Snakes on a Plane was a meme before the movie was out. People were making fun of it and making videos about it because it was Samuel L. Jackson in a campy movie named "Snakes on a Plane."

The line "I've had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane" was an internet meme from a fan video made before the movie was released. They went back and refilmed a scene where Samuel L. Jackson says the meme.

The movie, at one point, was changed from "Snakes on a Plane" to "Pacific Air Flight 121" but the Internet buzz and memes got it changed back.

Anyways, the meme was added to the movie before "I'm the Juggernaut" (which was shot extremely last minute), but X3 beat out Snakes to the theaters.

>>
>>62773591
Is this real? THis looks fucking retarded.
>>
>>62774957
I remember it because my dad talked and joked about that movie for the longest time before the release. Had to look up what they changed the name to, but I remember that because we were a little disappointed when we heard about it, then got psyched again when they changed the name back.

I guess long story short the movie was dumb but everyone knew it would be and the experience was so fun that I regret nothing.

He's got a point. The spread of smartphones has accelerated the growth in absolute fucktards online, and at the same time the Internet itself is getting smaller.

I'm pulling these numbers from a real vague memory here so help me out, but I want to say the top 10,000 most popular websites accounted for 50% of all Internet traffic in 2005 whereas the top six most popular websites account for 50% of all Internet traffic today.
>>
Wait, what was the reference in X3? I was a tad too young to catch internet memes in media at that age
>>
>>62775138
you know that dancing baby plant in the pot.
It was in some marvel film
>>
>>62773569
what meme is this?
>>
>>62775828
If you don't know the reference you're not a tad too young, you're way too young.
>>
>>62775774
China getting smart phones and going online doesn't mean nobody knew about the Internet in 2006. Much secret club.
>>
>>62773591
How the fuck is that even a costume
>>
>>62776245
No, I just didn't recall the scene in question and thought there was something more to it than "I'm the Juggernaut"
>>
>What is a catchphrase
>>
>>62776877
Please show me an instance where that line was said prior to the cartoon edit.
>>
>there are plebkids today who don't remember when AOL ruined the internet
>or when Compuserve ruined the internet before that
>or when Netcom ruined the internet before that
Before there was reddit, before there was "the cancer", there was always SOME new group flooding in shitting things up for the earlier arrivals.
>>
>>62777045
Gaia was the major scapegoat before Reddit, also SA was for awhile in between the two but it wasn't for long.
>>
>>62777045
It's basically true though isn't it? The internet may not have been populated necessarily by the best and brightest but it was populated by some of the most creative and weirdest and this magic was perpetually diluted with each new, ever increasing wave of fuckheads until we ended up surrounded with the exact same cunts the Internet was often used to get away from in the first place
>>
>>62777200
Anyone want to place bets on what the next one will be?

in 50 years applied memetics will be a respectable career
>>
>>62778090
Honestly, it's disturbing how people like us will be considered chroniclers of a new age in a few decades. We were the first or second wave of the new culture, and we represent how terrible it all is.

>>
>>62778287
Culture has generally been reactionary for about 30 years or so, but we are the first that made use of every little thing becoming a viral meme.
>>

You were just young.

The internet was in full swing in 2006. The aim/yahoo messenger era fizzled out in late 2003.
>>
>>62781048
LOL No it didn't
That era didn't go away until Facebook got popular in 2007.
